Hi, I'm looking for advice on replacing my laptop, my current one is ancient, slow and starting to plague me with random glitches and crashes. I don't use it for gaming, just office work, browsing, skype etc, but it will be travelling a lot, so I'd like something fairly robust, if possible.

My budget is £500. General advice on well-regarded (and poorly regarded) manufactureres would also be very welcome.

Thank you

I'm in same boat, more or less.

I've been meaning to buy a new one,....for about a year? At least now?

The last page of the Acer's thread doesn't fill me with hope, looks like lot's of faults. I'm thinking of throwing money away on an Apple....

I have to agree, the recent posts about issues is a bit disheartening. I've had one for a few months and when I was using it solidly I had none of the issues mentioned. Best to look into it a bit more and see if its just a batch fault or a general flaw in the design.

Acer Timeline have better design (cooling) to last longer, and spec, i hope, on my 3820TZ.

Quietest pc i have ever owned too. Runs very cool as well, cooler and quieter than a Macbook Air i tried.

My Acer Netbook MB died within warranty (2 week repair). I assume it overheated, or just couldn't keep up with what i was doing, due to being slow.
