Hello good people of this subforum. Now I'm sure most of you will know a great deal more than me about the intricacies of Windows networking so internet cookies all round once you've solved my issue.

Bought a laptop and on Thursday and mapped my WD MyCloud with no issues as I have with my desktop and my Surface Pro 4. Yesterday I couldn't access the drive, had an x through it in file explorer andkept giving me an error when I clicked on it.

I decided to disconnect the drive and start again but when I went in there was no drive showing available to map.

I can see the drive in File Explorer-network

and I can connect to it as a Media Server

but when I go in to map a network drive it cannot be seen

As I said up the page,I've not had an issue with my other 2 computers and this now seems to be out of my ability to fathom. I'm sure it's going to be something simple but for the life of me I cannot see it.

One thing to add, I did do the latest big windows update on Thursday when I got the laptop, and I did map it whilst this update was downloading/installing, but the mapped drive was showing and working on Friday long after the big update was installed.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers all

If you can find out the IP address, then just type It either in to there or just "\\ipaddress" straight in to explorer and it should open it. Can usually find the IP address from your router.

Might be easier ways, but it'll probably do.

Cheers you’re a star. That works and I can set my download folder, documents etc to the network drive that way. It doesn’t solve why I can’t map a network drive but I don’t care as I can still do what I want to do without issue.

Thank you.
