Hi everyone not been round for a while, i am here as i need your help. My wife is going to be working from home again, last time she brought a laptop home but thinking may be easier investing in a new one for our selves.

She was looking at laptops for around £250 but to be honest i think these will be rubbish and no good when she has half a dozen browsers and work software running.

I am thinking do i get a half decent laptop that will do the job for £350-400 or if i spend few hundred more can i get a gaming laptop  i need your help, i usually play games like they are billions and total war games and skylime cities etc.

I was looking at dell G3 but what is the best budget gaming laptop that will play those games wasnt wanting to spend more than £750 or so.

Thanks dean

You can get the HP gaming 15 with Ryzen 4600h and gtx 1650 for £650.

For the money its a decent machine and should handle those games.
Thanks for the recomendation appreciate it, i have seen the acer with AMD ryzen 5 3550h and 256gb ssd and 8gb ram with a gtx 1650 and thats is £629 in currys also have the I5 version for £650 not sure if worth the extra.

Cant find the HP ones. Do you think the graphics card gtx 1650 should play the likes of total war games on high settings and they are billions and play games like that rts games and the new AOE when out etc quite easily ?

I did have a alienware with 1060 then a 1080 in the last but looking at them there prices are to much and i think overpriced at the moment even though i loved the machine and the alienware warranty was second to none but sold as to expensive as wasnt using enough but i can live with £700 or less as wife needs one for work aswel so would rather pay a few hundred more and also be able to game .

I keep thinking if i pay more i can get better graphics etc but have to give my head a shake as dont want to spend a fortune.

Thanks dean

I'd avoid the 3000 series ryzen chips in a gaming laptop and go for an i5 instead.

The 1650 should get about 40-50 fps in total war 3 kingdoms at 1080p high settings with an i5 9300 from my research so should be fine for those type of games.

The hp i mentioned comes in and out of stock a lot as its so popular so you just need to keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for that and good to know, so the i5 version of the acer should be better.

Any other recommendations for less than £700 to play those sort of gamessnd skyline cities etc i do t mind waiting till closer to xmas etc.

Like the asos predator laptops but usually 1k plus.

For under £700 I think an i5 with a 1650 or 1650 ti will be the best you can get unless the hp with the 4600h comes back into stock.

Best value I can see overall atm is the lenovo legion 5p for £900 with the ryzen 4800h and 2060 and a great 1080p 144hz screen.

The sub £700 laptops will all be similar in quality with average 1080p 60hz screens.

HP Pavilion 15-ec1001na 15.6 Inch Full HD Gaming Laptop - (Shadow Black) (AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB Dedicated) Graphics, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 Home

Is this the one you mean ? Would this be better than the i5 for same price, nice laptop and has a webcam also what is handy.

Yeah thats the one i mean, for gaming the i5 and 4600h will perform similarly but as you mentioned it was for work as well the 4600h is a good bit faster for productivity.

So tempted to spend more but think this is the one and if gets used plenty for gaming i can upgrade in future but its very reasonably priced and better processor than the acer ones and has a webcam all for the same price, just hope plays the total war games and they are billions and skyline cities and diablo and AOE and c&c etc and other games like iron harvest.

Also wonder if would cost much uograding the ram and if would make much difference.

If you go to youtube and search 1650 laptop and the name of the game you will find videos of performance for just about any game out there.

You can get 16gb of laptop ddr4 3200mhz for about £60 as for the difference it would make that would depend on the application or game you are running.

It certainly seems like the best deal for that price range and i have seen the youtube videos and seems to play the game, like i say i could spend a bit more but it never ends and price keeps going up and up and only for a few games like i have listed.

A load of the vids have the 1650 ti and not the 1650. Wonder if worth asking on graphics card section to make sure.

Thanks so much for the help so far mate

Found places now that do the money over 12 months so can push budget a bit more now sure i have read this is currently the best deal for £900 and i have foind this.

Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05H Core i5-10300H 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch FHD 144Hz GeForce RTX 2060 6GB Windows 10 Gaming Laptop

What you think ? Would rather have a larger ssd but a good price. Or even a bit less money and getting th 1660ti as this is a much better card isnt it and sgould play games a lot better ?

Also found this for £847
Acer Nitro 5 Core i5-10300H 8GB 512GB SSD 15.6 Inch 144Hz GeForce GTX 1660Ti Full HD Windows 10 Gaming Laptop

Think the 1660 ti now so should run the games on high hopefully, i much prefer the acer and msi brands etc as like the look of them a lot more but thats a cracking deal you posted there i will have a look, should the 1660ti run the games well ? I had the 1070 card a while ago and ran perfect never missed a beat playing total war etc.

I think so, going from I've read. Not found out a review of that exact model, but it's almost a no brainer for what I was hoping for

So i need to find a 1660ti laptop now so far £850 ish is best i can find, like i say only games i play is rts games and city builder games etc so hopefully should last me a few years and be future proof for new games comong soon like total war and age of empires etc you think so ?

Most seem to be i5 over the amd models at that range is there any cpus you recommend etc ? Must say i never relised how over prices the alienware laptops were. I will defently be keeping hold of this laptop as wofe will need for work.

Really like the acer nitro 5 an515-55 with i5 10th gen 10300 cpu anyone used this ?

I have the Asus A15 with 4800h and 1660ti and it performs very well in games at 1080p.

The 1660ti is a huge step up from the 1650ti but the 2060 isnt that big a step up from the 1660ti.

Defently sticking to the 1660ti as read its not far from if not better than the old 1070 and that played the games amazing.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone i really appreciate it.

What you think of the deal above the acer woth i5 ?

Looking at the £850 range no higher.

Thanks again
