Sorry for making a new post but I've been looking through various posts and nothing really answers all my questions.
In September I will be moving to Japan for a year as part of my degree. I can't take my PC with me (custom build) and I would like a good laptop to replace it. I have several questions and specs I am looking for, so I'll try to make everything clear.
I am looking for a laptop for gaming as well as uni work. I mostly play WoW but I want to be able to play newer games as they come out. I really value my FPS, especially when raiding in WoW. I am looking to spend about £800-1000, and £1000 really is my limit. Obviously with my price range I don't want the best thing on the market, but I'd like it to still be able to play games reasonably well in a couple of years time.
Here are some of the questions I have:
1) Should I buy now and get a bargain on 'older' processors such as the i7-740 or wait till early September? Bargains may be gone but I don't know if the newer ones will be any cheaper by then.
2) Are there any brands people would recommend? Asus are a little too pricey and I really do not want a Dell. So far I've looked at Sony, Toshiba and Samsung. Also, what about HP's new Pavillions? They look very impressive but how do they perform?
3) Is the 1gb GT 425m any good as a GFX card, or should I really go for a newer and possibly 2gb card?
4) Am I restricting myself too much by looking for an i7? Are some i5s as good?
5) Here are two I'm currently looking at.
Sony Vaio VPCF13M8E
i7-740QM 4gb RAM (ext. to 8gb) 1gb GT 425M GPU
Other specs are in the link.
Toshiba Satellite P750-115 - Link deleted.
i7-2630QM 8gb RAM 2gb GT 540M GPU
The Toshiba is only 15.6" whereas the sony is 16.4", which I would prefer. However it looks higher spec from what I can see. Unfortunately I'm not really clued up on laptop hardware since I always build desktops. My GF had a Toshiba before and I didn't like the build much. This one looks uglier than the Sony but ofc performance takes priority.
If either of these is worth it I can buy them this weekend. However, if people think they are either not good enough or I am better waiting till August/September I will of course wait.
Thank you all in advance.
