New Laptop - Looking after it and setting it up

I have bought a new ASUS laptop and want to make sure I look after it properly. I have a few questions so would be happy to get advice.

If in the future I wanted to reset my laptop, I guess it would need the original settings to reset from. Is this already on the laptop or do I need to save this to a DVD cd or on the harddrive?

Another thing is that laptops come with bloatware so I have a few ASUS programmes on here. I'm not sure which ones to keep and uninstall as I don't want to mess up the laptop. If I named them would you be able to help?

Lastly, I can't get the scroll function to work on the touchpad (scroll up and down using the right side of the touchpad). No idea why.

The best way to reset a PC is doing a clean install from a Windows 7 / 8 disk. You don't actually need the disk if you dont have it, you can download the files that would be on the disk from Microsoft, and then just use your legal CD key. This will delete all your files and settings. It will be as you bought it (minus the bloatware)

You can most likely get rid of any Asus software. If there is an Asus help/support program maybe leave that on there incase its needed later. Tbh, I make a habit of not getting an OS with a computer I build, and just paying £50 for a legal CD key and just installing it myself. No bloatware and saves me a bit of money too!

You may need to either install the specific mouse drivers, or enter the driver software and enable the scrolling down the far right side of the touchpad. Note that not all touchpads can do the scrolling thing.

Thank you for your reply.

So does that mean that now I have my laptop, I don't need to back anything up? Everything needed for a fresh install is available online? I ask that because I have put on hold downloading programmes just in case I do need to do that.

No idea what a legal CD key is. Was that meant to come with the laptop? Sorry for what may seem silly questions.

I've found the page listed below which shows that scrolling should work but it doesn't and I have no idea how to make sure it is enabled. Does anyone have any ideas please? http://support.asus.com/Troubleshoo...A&s=386&hashedid=K0x462Xrfr7kxIK4&os=&no=1776

It will have a restore partition on your hard drive too if you ever need to revert it back to factory defaults, it'll be in your manual on how to do this :)
