New laptop needed, suggestions please!

Hi all,

My friend is looking to buy a laptop in the next few days and has trusted me to recommend him one. This will be his main and only computer.

What he must have:

17 inch / full HD

What he will use it for:

A bit of everything (day to day stuff). No real gaming. No CAD or anything. SSD not needed.

I was originally thinking something with an i5 with integrated graphics and 4-8gb ram would be ideal, but couldn't see anything within budget. His max budget is £450.

Please let me know what you guys would get with this budget. Thanks in advance!

If all it's going to be used for is general use (Internet, music, video, etc) then something like this is more than enough.

You may need to pay a little more if you want a 1920x1080+ screen though.

Thanks for the suggestion but yes, he really wants full hd and would be willing to pay more for it. It's actually going to be his main tv as well!

You're sure that processor will be enough? I'm really out of date with laptop CPUs.

Well you'll going to pay around 600-700 for one with a FHD screen. Couldn't find one on OcUK but did at a competitor (which I can't show, sorry).

The processor is a low end CPU but it's enough for the basics. It's possible it may struggle a little with a high resolution/high bitrate video but it depends on a variety of things so may be fine.
