Hi there,

Im after a new laptop as the one Ive got is getting on a bit and need an upgrade.

There are loads about these days, within a huge price range.

After looking around Ive found a very nice deal on a Sony Vaio.

It has a C2D T5300 1.73GHz, 1GB Ram, 120GB HD, 15.4" X-Black display and Vista Home Premium.

Then is has the 'normal' stuff like, DVD-RW, Wireless and onboard Intel graphics which Im not too bothered about.

Looking on the Sony website it says that it weights 3KG and has a battery life of upto 3.45 hours which you cant really grumble at that :p

Questin is though, it seems to be the best laptop for under £600 imo.

Are the Sony Vaio's a decent peice of kit? Hows the X-Black screen?

Thanks

3KG seems pretty heavy for a 15.4" notebook. What model Sony are you looking at?

Sony Vaio are a decent brand but at a cost. The one you've listed isn't too bad for once. But there's always the following:

HP 6510b
Intel Core2Duo T7100 (1.8GHz) Santa Rosa
1GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz
120GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
14.1" Display (1280x800)
Intel GMA X3100 Graphics
Microsoft Windows Vista Business

That's about £600 too. See here for a review.

I can't comment on the screen of the Sony, although I've heard good things about Sony's display. Check it out.

The Sony im looking at is from the N series.

Model is N31 M/W.

The weight is ok I suppose. Wouldnt be carrying it around that much.

I was looking @ 14.1" displays but I think they would be too small for everyday use as I use it instead of a desktop.

Thats the only bad thing I think about the HP. Its all plastic too though which im not sure about.

The Sony can be had for £569 which aint too bad I think :)

What about the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V3505?

Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 - 2.0GHz (x2), 667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache
1024MB DDR2-533MHz
120GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
15.4" Widescreen TFT 1280x800
Integrated Graphics supporting 256MB
802.11a/b/g
Windows XP Professional Edition

About £588. :p

Don't forget the HP I mentioned above is a 14" and offers same resolution as that of a 15". I think if we're talking about aesthetics, then the Sony wins hands down on all the models we've mentioned here.

Found the same Sony laptop from a large highstreet store online with a Free Baracuda bike :p :D

Its £699 though, £140 more expensive than the cheapest price Ive found.

Too much messing around selling the bike on trying to get more than £140 for it.
