Right, I have a new Dell XPS 1530 on its way, I want to use it to hold my music library but also, I want to hook it up to my Mixer and play through that with my CDj and decks.

Will I need a better sound card than the standard Dell one ?

What sort of external sound cards should I look for ? USB ?
Creative ??

Creative have a couple of X-Fis available. There's one that plugs in via USB externally, and one that uses a PC card slot I believe.

Thanks. I know about the X-Fi but a lot of people have driver issues with them (apparently). I was hoping that there was a competing brand that offered more bang for my buck.

Why do feel you need a new soundcard to listen to stereo mp3's? It's only beneficial for DVD movies, or perhaps games at a push.
Unless the new sound device adds more ports that you really need, or something like SPDIF out, then there's not much point.

As mentioned earlier:

X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook is an internal solution.
SB Surround 5.1 (USB), an external one. This means carrying round an extra box which kinda defeats the whole laptop idea.

Personally I'd just make sure my laptop had decent on-board before I bought it.
