I am looking for a new laptop, I've never owned one before so looking for the advice of some more experienced people..

This will be used at/for university, I'm not interested in playing games it will be a work only machine. Portability and battery life are my main concerns. Budget approx £500.

I have looked at a Samsung Q45 these can be had for around £500 and seem pretty much what I am looking for on paper, Has anyone seen/used this model?

Any alternatives I should consider?

Thanks

Well, a small lightweight laptop 12-14" screen etc decent battery life. Thats it. CPU or Ram etc should not really be an issue as the most demanding thing i'll be running is Word, excel and possibly Visual C, matlab maybe.

How will these run on Vista, as it seems this comes on most new laptops. Maybe only Ram will be an issue?

Not an EEE before someone mentions it, that screen is too small.

If that is all you need the laptop for and you aren't too fussed about cpu speed and gfx you could get a laptop seriously cheaper than 500. You could look at halfing that budget whilst also getting 2gb RAM to support Vista. Check out the base model Dell Vostro's under the Small Business' section.
