Looking to get a new laptop for day to day home/personal work use.

- Software development (VM)
- Light video editing
- Light gaming
- General media browsing etc

Key nice to haves
14-15" screen
i5
Blu ray
Draft N wireless
Backlit Keyboard
HD screen

The only laptop I've found that ticks every single box is the Dell studio 15. However I'm am a little concerned reading issues regarding overheating....does anyone have any experience with the 15 or pose an alternative?

I've got one. Cracking machine, no heat issues at all. Getting the full HD 15" screen is one of the best buys I've ever made, it's an absolute joy to use, to the point where I sometimes use that in preference to my desktop purely because of the screen.

I got one myself and mine does run hot, however, that with i7 and reading from reviews i5 is better for temperatures. I also have a full HD screen on it and for general web browsing takes some getting used to, but media work is a joy. The glossy display is a pain in sunlight but to be fair pretty much every laptop suffers from that nowadays. Built quality is good and I like overall simple finish but lid doesn't feel as well built as the rest of the machine. I wouldn't call it flimsy but I also wouldn't call it well built either. For alternatives I'd also check out Sony E series and some of the Toshibas offerings although latter machines are prebuilt so wouldn't allow as much customisation.
