Afternoon guys, i hope you're having a pleasant bank holiday! Im going to be buying a new laptop next month and i have been looking at HP's HDX range, in particular the one i have linked too below. I have yet to properly search for the best price but looking at the specs (and comparing it to my friends HP laptop) it looks pretty damned good.

HP HDX X16-1275EA

Any opinions on this? Anything else i should be looking at for £900-£1k? I don't think i want to make the jump to Mac.

Thanks guys.

Well i ordered it anyway! Cant wait for it to be delivered! Just have to be quite fruggle with any expense for a while now!

Im not a heavy gamer as such (well i havent had time in the last 12 months what with having a 54 hour working week!) but its mainly going to be to support my final year at uni from september. Its also so i can leave my desktop at home this year.

Another thing, do you guys think its worth investing in the 12cell battery for it? Im guessing that due to the specs its not going to be particularly good on power with the standard one and i cant seem to find any statistics for the life of the standard one. Worth the 100 notes?

Cheers!

6 cell will probably do between 2.5 and 4 hours depending on what settings you have (probably closer to 2.5). The rule of thumb with batteries is try it at first and see how it goes, and only buy another when you really need it (as Li-Ion batteries have a finite shelf life, they start deteriorating from the moment they roll off the production line).

Are you prepared for how tiny text is going to seem? I have a WSGXA+ (1680x1050) 15.4" laptop and personally wouldn't want to go to a higher resolution on anything under 17".

That's a powerful desktop replacement notebook. The battery life will be terrible. 2hrs or so.

You increase the DPI setting if this is an issue.

Yeh i had thought of this but im sure i can cope! Though it is going to be very tiny! I jsut wish there were some more reviews of the new model revision (X16-1275EA) all of the reviews are for previous incarnations of the laptop. I am trying to uncover whether it has a backlit keyboard as i seem to remember reading.

I would have thought it may well come with an increased dpi setting anyway?

Changing text size and DPI are not the same.
You can mess with text sizes in the appearance panel if you think that works better for you though, yes.

Oh I just assumed you meant text size, surely actually changing the DPI on a LCD is a stupid thing to do, as your screen would then not be running at native res (and thus spoiling the whole point in getting a 1080p screen)

No not at all. DPI and Screen resolution, again, are not the same.

I'd be more concerned about the battery life on this laptop to be honest. That and the recent safety recall of HP batteries.
