Hey I'm looking for a laptop. it will mainly be used for web browsing, picture editing (Lightroom), watching movies and word documents. the laptop will be used out and about so needs to be portable small light and hard wearing. here are some key points.

budget - £500-£1000 cheaper the better
screen size - 13inch seems about right 1080 will be ok
battery life - as much as possible this will be a portable machine
brand - anything really I have always used Windows so would probably prefer that but I'm open to a MacBook if it's a better machine.
will need to have an ssd and an i5 if you believe this will be better for Lightroom ect.

Currently been looking at asus ux305, dell xps13, MacBook Air 13inch and the MacBook Pro if it's really worth the hefty price tag.

Any help would be great thanks

If you aren't planning on gaming, you could maybe take a look at the Lenovo X260? It's a 12.5" Laptop, with the choice of an SSD and a 1080p screen. (Neither come as default as far as I know)

Just got a delivery of a Lenovo X250 today, need to have a play. I would rate the X230 highly though. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is if they are in your price range (as new), both my X230s and the X250 have been from the bay. Obviously it's a Windows machine. You could also look at the DELL XPS laptops?

The Macbook Pros are very nice machines, but I personally do not think they are worth the premium.

The Asus UX305 is ridiculously good Ultrabook for the money, now that it is on sale at £550 down from their usual £650.

Other than have a smaller size 128GB SSD, it matchs spec of the MacBook and has a better display then it at £500 lower in price. It is also full metal construct, light and thin.

Currently torn myself between the UX305 and the UX303UA, both Asus Zenbooks. The second one may be worth checking out for you as with an i7 and 12gb of RAM it's closer to the MBP you mentioned than the UX305.
