I'm currently in the market for a new laptop, and one that I have come across is a HP Pavilion dv6244eu AMD 64 1024MB 120GB with Windows Vista Home Premium, however although it has the Turion 64 X2 (TL-50) would it come with Vista x32 or x64?

It doesn't mention on the site what version it comes with, so would it come with x32 and I have to send away for a x64 version?

All it's required for is browsing the Internet and using Office on so it should be suitable, and it's only £568.99 from a competitor (sorry OcUK, there just isn’t enough of a Vista laptop selection yet).

Thanks, I've been googling for some information on it for a while now and nothing seems to reveal if it comes with x32 or x64, since the availability is 1-2 weeks I have ordered it and I will try to find out more about it.

with a 120 gig hdd the hdd is most certainly 5400 rpm. you sure you want to lose the speed?

Would there be that much loss of speed, 5400 rpm seems to be the standard speed from what I have seen with laptops, and it will only really be used for browsing the Internet and the odd Office application.

I would assume all pre-installed OEM Vista to be 32bit unless otherwise specified.

That’s what I'm thinking, I just wonder if it will come with an upgrade voucher so I can send off for the x64 version, however one thing I noticed about it is that it comes with a recovery partition so I suspect I may have to phone up HP and get them to send out a copy of Vista so I can install it without all their add-ons, as I did with my previous laptop under Windows XP.

imo, you wont notice the difference if you're going to use office/internet and yeah 5400rpm is standard notebook hdd speeds.

i changed notebooks and went from a machine with a 7200rpm ATA drive to a 5400rpm SATA drive notebook, i was dreading it because i thought less speed etc. but tbh ive not noticed much of a difference except its much quieter (yay!), i've even held off the intended hdd upgrade because i imo dont feel a 7200rpm hdd is essential atm.

edit: also i know dell/lenovo wont send out install cds rather recovery ones, not sure about other OEMs.

i'm amazed you say that. i went from a 5400 rpm hdd in my old laptop to a 7200 in my new and would never go back to the 5400.

but, for office applications and internet browsing i agree that a 7200 is unnecessary.
