My old man has finally had enough of his epson ink jet and wants to get a compact mono laser printer.

Budget is less then £100.

What can you guys recommend?

+1 for the samsung range although they say to print colour is a little slower than you might expect (depends on model), apart from that no other major cons

Samsung ML series tend to get decent reviews.

Also seen some Xerox colour laser printers within your budget, if you want colour. I have the 6110N. Colour printing is a bit slow and the print quality isn't amazing, but it's cheap and it's networkable.

Thanks for the responses.

I was looking at the brother printers...just had a look at the samsung printers and noticed the Samsung ML 2240 (cheap and cheerful).

Anyone had experience with that one?

We've had the brother ones here, the hl2040, and they've proven to be a piece of crap tbh, i'd steer well clear.

We've also had 4 samsung 2240's. 1 of them had an issue where when you printed, half the page was printed in a solid black block going vertically, if that makes any sense. We replaced it with another 2240, and this had the same problem. No more ordering of 2240's here.

We're currently purchasing canon lbp3100's, and i've heard nothing but great feedback.

Its colour, but the Samsung CLP-300 is fantastic, costs less than £100 and a full aftermarket toner set can be had for about £30 from that well known auction site.

I did some research a while ago into getting a new laserjet.

I found HP were the best, although more expensive intially you get a lot more pages per pence in terms of toner. Just my two cents.

HP are good lasers. I have to deal with all kinds in our company.
For personal use you might just scrape a half decent mono below £100.
Business use, forget it!
With colour lasers, you can buy the printers fairly cheap, but once you need to replace all toners they end up being quite a bit more than a new printer.
Konica Minolta Magicolor 255DL A4 colour £157, with half yield toners installed. Full yield set of toners cost approx. £240. Great printers btw, we have 4 at work.

These get poor reviews almost everywhere but I have one and like it.
I also had a samsung mono laser before it a 1510 and it was exceptionally good value (think i paid £50 for it and via ebay it was less than a tenner to refill the toner).

As long as you do not need photographic quality colour these days I always recomend lasers over inkjets for home users. (I do actually repair brother , OK and HP printers as part of my job).

CLP range are dire in my experience. Had 2 for work, AM toners don't last very long and if you print imagery then they will fade in far quicker time that official toners.
Both clapped out on us after a year and we really couldn't be bothered to try for a warranty repair if one actually existed.

Thanks for the comments guys (& gals if any;))

I have narrowed it down to the below:

Samsung ML-2240
or
HP LaserJet P1005

They are pretty much the same price, so which would go for?
