New Launch Date For 7900

Could just be scary mongering to stop people buying nVidia cards for Christmas presents - but I did a bit of digging after Drunkenmaster brought me up on it in another thread and does seem like the Tahiti based cards are 1-2 months ahead of schedule so likely to be true tho doubt there will be any real volume for atleast another 2-3 weeks (after the 22nd).

Twin Frozr coolers from the get go would be nice. Wish I had waited with my 6950 and got one instead of reference :)

Even if true I wouldn't get too excited about getting your hands on one:

Now, it looks like the Radeon HD 7970 will launch on December 22, 2011, bringing a Christmas gift to all the current AMD users and those that want to become one. This will be a very limited launch, with the real availability only coming on January 9, 2012 - which should be the launch date for the Radeon HD 7950.

Be interesting to see the pricing though.

There was a rumour quite a while ago that AMD are talking down a launch but would bring the launch forward into 2011, just. It's possible, its not all that important, and who knows.

I really don't care if 7970's do launch at £500, or 18k, its people's arguments that have been rubbish. If someone says AMD will price it against the 580gtx only, all history points directly against this, the argument is flat out stupid. If someone says AMD have a new CEO whose priority is generating a better profit, bigger margins and paying down debt........ that is a very GOOD argument for potentially increased gpu prices, as are TSMC charging more for wafers.

Would Read ok the idea of a pre xmas essentially limited edition version to get as much money as possible off a few idiots at £500 a pop, then have the 7950 barely 10% slower but 30-40% cheaper only a couple weeks later, very possible.

I think it wouldn't really matter what the RRP was, if they launch 3 days before xmas, with maybe 1000 cards for a few major countries then e-tailers will look at the situation as a blank cheque and price where ever the hell they want.

If you want power hungry and fast in a notebook you get a pair of GTX580Ms, overvolt their bios and set their clocks to desktop GTX560ti levels (same chip) and get GTX560ti SLI in a notebook :D

and watch it melt through your lap

Or keep you warm if you lose your house after you buy the laptop and can find someone, somewhere that would be kind enough to let you use their electricity but not let you in their house.

A bit specific and long winded for a laugh but I couldn't have done it without you :p.
