Not overly convinced but at least getting rid of the slow chicanes is a good idea.

Not a fan of the track either way as there's not enough hills... (I equate some hills as the most exciting test for racing as different cars cope with incline changes in different manners and when they are all flat we get average tracks, like this one Bahrain and the Valencia street track)

On the plus the layout does seem to be more tricky for the hairpin in the grandstand...

Section 1 should be a straight line up to the hairpin for overtaking! They say its for safety due to insufficient runoff and that they could move the chicane back but that this would ruin the viewing experience. Are they suggesting watching F1 cars go through a chicane in single file is exciting?!
Section 2 looks promising though.

I also think section 1 should be a straight line(it's already there) but have a bigger\wider bend that leads to the next straight.
Section 2 looks way better.

And the changes, change what exactly?

That first section is still going to be painful to watch. The big stop 'should' be in the stadium, but can't because it's dangerous. I wonder what the designers were thinking... Do people want to see F1 cars going very slowly past them in procession, or steaming in last of the late breakers style?

What's going to happen in section 2? All they've done is taken out another of those awful 90' corners and replaced it with a squiggle. To what end?

The whole track is designed to look pretty, show off that tacky hotel and the ludicrous amount of money they've spent trying to attract people to the middle of nowhere... But who cares? Every one will just go to Dubai anyway. :D

(I may not be a fan of this track... :o)

Im sure on one of the free practice sessions at korea or abu dhabi ant davidson or crofty mentioned that new track designers are not allowed to have large hills and inclines any more and are only allowed to have a few negative cambers on corners.
But i didnt hear them mention what the actual regulations or reasons for it were
Anyone recall it? or did i dream it lol :p

What dull regulations, thought it would not surprise me if they were actually true

They were linked in a thread over the spring/summer. Imagine someone has it bookmarked! Alternatively I'd imagine you can download them online somewhere - probs the FIA website.

They were unbelievably specific and bland to read though. They'll never be able to make a circuit like Laguna Seca, Spa, Brands Hatch or similar these days... :(

You've just listed 3 of the best tracks in the world! (Laguna Seca is one id love them to try and do f1 at though the cork screw would be too much probably...)

Who ever thought up the track design stuff should really have a good long think about what they have ruined...

Sure the Austin Texas circuit has a huge incline at the start, some 133 foot change in elevation.

Yeah I remember Anthony Davidson saying something along those lines in the practise session for Abu Dhabi. Can't remember exactly what he said, but it was along the lines of certain number of X corners, certain amount of runoffs of x distance from barriers.
