so just got back into Photography After A long time away.

i know my Equipment is Bargain basement but atm don't use it enough to warrant a upgrade used twice in 5 years lol.

Camera: Nikon D60
Lenses: Default lens + Tamron 17-55

Im looking for something i can get some decent distance from & possibly some macro stuff

to take pictures of birds/Squirrels etc i also want it to be my Default lens so dont want somthing too massive

Any recommendations? i was thinking:
50-300mm (if they exist)
Budget around £200

D60 is a DX (APS-C) body, which is a cropped sensor.

For a piddling £97 (RRP £173) in the rainforest site you can get a Tamron 70-300 with built in motor. This gives great reach on a DX sensor and has a macro switch.

A complete and utter no brainer in your circumstances - UNLESS - you want VC. If you don't know what that is, then you don't need it.

Happy photographing!

The non-VC Tamorn 70-300 is very soft though. the Newer Tamron 70-300mm VC is a much better lens whether you want the VC or not.

So these ones?
Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Nikon+Motor
100 quid

Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon
300 quid

Thats the lens. Seems like Tamron raised their prices, given that I would go for the Nikon AF-S 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR DX Lens

bought the Nikon

Btw my friend has a D3000 or D5000

he wants something similar will the recommendation be the same?

Nikon 70-300VR or Tamron 70-300 VC.

Assuming you can afford the extra £100 or so over the 55-300, either of those two are much, much better lenses.
