Might sound a silly question but I found 2 asus motherboards I like one has the newer socket so no brainer you would think but I don't want to wait weeks or longer for stability etc to be ironed out. And the reviews I have read of the new cpus and motherboards are not that impressive perhaps due to optimisation what boards are the best for gaming at the moment these are the two I picked out.

My cpu budget is around £500

Thanks all

They are designed mostly for different platforms. In the case, pick the CPU you want based on your needs / requirements, then the motherboard, not other way around. Also, as a side note, LGA2066 / X299 is technically older then the z370 platform.

If your mostly going to be gaming with some lightly threaded productivity work, then the 8700k is pretty much best you can get (though difference may only become apparent with higher refresh rate panel) which will go into the z370 platform. Leaning towards productivity that can use more core's then Ryzen could be an option.

You mention gaming as primary use case, so its an even easier choice, the 8700k or I guess if you can wait, the upcoming Intel 8 core CPU. I would totally ignore X299, more so the entry level models at around that price which are squeezed left right and centre by the 8700k, Ryzen and lower end Threadripper models (if you need the cores)

Thanks yes it's going to be for gaming I am unsure what to do I have gone with a Asus z370 motherboards it's ordered with some ram etc but after reading up a little iv'e seen that the new i9 CPUs and boards are due soon. At the moment I have a 4gen Intel CPU ddr3 ram.I got a good deal on the board and ram and a second hand 8700k so price wise not bad at all I don't want to spend a fortune on it so even though new tech on the way it could be just way to expensive an upgrade if new boards are £250+ the ram I believe could cost around £300-£400 and a top end CPU £500-£600 probably cost me near double compared to what I have ordered. Still I really don't know if I should cancel or not I never normally buy the top new tech but all the advice on here seems to be I would be mad to go ahead right now !

It's looking like at least another fortnight before consumers will be getting 9 series intel chips and the z390 motherboards in their hands. Maybe the 19th? I forget the exact date that is in rumours.

The price for 9 series intel will be higher than 8 series on release by all accounts. Worse still, poor supply will likely push 9 series chips above msrp when the are released.

That's my thinking expensive to start then rising due to supply demand. Also I never buy without reviews etc so it could be a long wait. Yes there is the AMD route but it's just not for me. I may be completely wrong on this but with the current top end boards and cpu's the bottleneck is probably the games themselves I doubt there's few games that really tax a high end CPU with 6+ cores I might stand corrected I was going to just get one if the new rtx graphics cards but I can upgrade my whole PC and swap out my GTX 980ti for a GTX 1080ti for less !! Already got an Asus strix 1080ti used for £575 sold my old card for £195 as well. I think this for me is the way to go just wish I could stick to my damn plan

Had a change of heart I did a little more research and the 8700k is not a massive upgrade from my haswell CPU I really thought 8th gen would thrash 4th but according to benchmarks I viewed not.. so really not worth the hassle cancelled memory and hopefully send board back for a refund. If the new i9 hardware is very expensive I my have to look at AMD after all
Thanks for input guys
