I was wondering, Sameknows says as the crow flys my Line Length is 1.7Km, but My attenuation is 47db so that works out at a line length of 3.4km, Does anybody knows that If i got a new line Installed, Will it be shorter?

chances are no it wont be shorter - the lines have to take the same route as the original regardless. why would you think it would be shorter? if they added a new exchange (box) nearer to you? they wouldnt do that because the current one is near enough to provide you with broadband at a rate between 400 and 2mb service.

I just thought that maybe my line followed some weird path around the town then to my house, and if they installed a new line, they might make it go straight to my house, and I rarley connect at over 2mb

BT wouldn't run 'a new line' from your home all the way to the exchange! It would just be a different spur off the nearest cabinet to you so would take exactly the same route, just as stevenazari1 has said.

Sounds like you'll be stuck with a bit of a slow line i'm afraid. Have you considered trying to improve the connection within your house?

If you have any extentions then try your modem/router in the master socket to see if you get a better figure.

You should get more than 2mb

Ive got an attenuation of 63.5 i connect at 3837 on BE, so just about 3mb, samknows says 3.37km from exchange.

My sister has an attenuation of 48 ish and she gets 5mb on BE, samknows says 3.84km from exchange

If i Plug my wireless router Directly into the master socket, I connect at 4030 usually, but its very unstable wireless connection, as im only getting one bar on the signal strength and it losses the signal all the time. When i connect it to the extension upstairs, I connect at an average 3000.

What product are you on? adsl max? or a LLU?

Whats your profile snr set at 3db,6db 9db etc?

ADSL Link Downstream
Connection Speed 3040 kbps
Line Attenuation 47 db
Noise Margin 10 db

Thats the current stats on my router.

id say theres something wrong somewhere, you should get more, id ask to be put on a 6db profile, be use 6db as standard. Im on a 3db profile and im happy enough

Is your router on a different extension than the "extension upstairs"?
It sounds like your internal wiring is at fault (particularly the extension the router is on) as your direct connection into the master socket is syncing a lot higher than your "normal" connection and the extension to upstairs.
I've found with my setup it makes a difference if i filter direct at the master socket, not on the end of an extension....even better is to get an ADSLnation XTE-2005 filtered face plate.
On this face plate i get 8128 sync, on the end of an extension with a filter i get ~6000 and on a standard plug in filter at the master socket i get ~7000.

I emailed, Zen about setting my profile to a 6db one and this is the reply.

Hi Christopher

Unfortunately we are not able to temporarily set your SNR to 6dB.

Your SNR will have been set automatically on your line with higher numbers representing a better and clearer signal.

I have had a quick look at your line and can't see any obvious problems. If you are experiencing any difficulties, please get back to me.

Regards,

Philip Ashley

It's not the same on ADSL compared to ADSL2+ which i think some people are getting confused with. For ADSL its best to change to the BT master socket for your internet connection, if its causes you problems with wireless signal etc then i would just suggest getting a wireless repeater.

Do you have much longer left on your ZEN contract? If not, check out www.samknows.com and see what other ISPs are in your area doing ADSL2+

It's exactly the same with ADSL or ADSL2+. The only difference is that only the LLUers do ADSL2+ just now, so they have direct access to the equipment in the exchange (given its theirs).

Zen should be able to get BTw to reset your target SNR margin to 6dB, but the principle is exactly the same.

Sorry Tolien i didn't realise, so could you use SNR changing software on ADSL lines, such as DMT Tool? Or is that completely controlled ISP side?

Im on a no fixed term contract so i can cancel at any time.

The only two LLU Providers on my exchange are Aol and Talk talk.

I have emailed them back, awaiting a responce.

No reason why you couldn't use DMT Tool - it doesn't change anything at the ISP side any more than with an LLUer, whether ADSL2+ is involved or not.
