New Live Messenger - pretty cool!

Both of those can be turned off in the options I think.

In Layout - untick the "Show the what's new list" box

In Messages - untick the "Group sequential messages" box. Not sure if this gets rid of the bullet points or not.

Really really dislike this release. Too much has changed to be new and sparkly as opposed to keeping it simple and functional. Sticking with 8.5 for now :(

Still rocking 7.5 myself :)
Can I ask what OS you are using? Can't get it to play on Vista x64. :( It runs but when I login I get a prompt telling me I have to use the new version to proceed and so I want to download it? Click No and I get back to login panel of MSN, click yes and it starts downloading new WLM. :p

Windows Vista SP1 32 Bit.

I followed this post a while ago on some forum to get it to work.

Install MSN 7.5, then download ResHacker and run it.

http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/

Open it up, then go to File > Open. Go to Program Files, and open your MSN Messenger Folder. Click on "msnmsgr". Once opened, look to the list on the side, and click on the + next to File Version, then the folder that says "1", then click on "1033". You'l get text on the side. Delete it all and replace it with this:

1 VERSIONINFO
FILEVERSION 8,1,178,0
PRODUCTVERSION 8,1,178,0
FILEOS 0x4
FILETYPE 0x1
{
BLOCK "StringFileInfo"
{
BLOCK "040904B0"
{
VALUE "CompanyName", "Microsoft Corporation"
VALUE "FileDescription", "MSN Messenger"
VALUE "FileVersion", "7.1.0178"
VALUE "InternalName", "msnmsgr"
VALUE "LegalCopyright", "Copyright © Microsoft Corporation 1997-2004"
VALUE "LegalTrademarks", "Microsoft® is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the U.S. and/or other countries."
VALUE "OriginalFilename", "msnmsgr.exe"
VALUE "ProductName", "MSN Messenger"
VALUE "ProductVersion", "7.1.0178"
}
}

BLOCK "VarFileInfo"
{
VALUE "Translation", 0x0409 0x04B0
}
}

Then hit Compile Script. Hit the Close button, you'l be prompted with "Resources have been modified, do you wish to save changes?" Select Yes.

Msn Messenger 7.5 should now work for you :)

I am a bit color blind and finding it almost impossible to distinguish who´s available and who´s not :(

Select the "Show status information in labels" option in in the Layout section in the settings. It'll add the status in brackets to each contact on your list.

Installed and it won't sign in, error 80040154

Have tried the msxml parser fixes and re-registering files but still persists with the same error! And there is no uninstaller =/ so I can't revert :(

Have had to move to Pidgin out of necessity and its actually not that bad...! At least, I've not come up against any limitations yet...

Would still like to go back to WLM if possible - anyone got any ideas? :)

Fixed it, never mind lol

Apparently you need to have windows live contacts installed or it won't sign in.

Just in case anyone else has the same issue! :)

Used it for an hour today and I seriously could not stand using it. Was unable to find anything, ie sorting contacts by online and offline. Went back to 8.1.

I couldn't find it for looking. Not like the previous version's I could do it within a couple of seconds.

The previous beta version didn't have that option, but the new release does.
