New living room AV orientation - width or length ways?

Hey guys,

Looking for some help/input.

I'm hoping to end up with a home to a similar living room layout to the below. My goal is to have use of my projector and to have the best size screen possible.

However, my dilemma is which way to have the room arranged, have the larger picture by arranging the room length ways, or sacrifice screen size and satellite speaker positioning by having the room width ways, but make a better use of the space?

Pictures below for ideas:

Obviously not everything is to exact size, but just there for reference. The red circle is the projector mounting point.

So what are your thoughts?

Thanks :)

EDIT: Would 100% want an L sofa as I currently have one and love it, would want to try and avoid putting furniture against an outside wall which is the thicker wall in the pictures.

For reference my current living room setup which I'd like to try and replicate in terms of TV with projector above.

Number 2 as you're not obstructing the large door I imagine (potentially harder for more than 2/3 people to see TV tho.).

I'd go with the second one but opposite, the rear speakers should be to the sides, not behind, but the door is where one of them should be, the opposite way round leaves plenty of room for the rears to be at the side of you.

Just some added info, I would 100% want an L sofa as I currently have one and love it, would want to try and avoid putting furniture against an outside wall which is the thicker wall in the pictures.

Number 2, it gives you the space to position and removes the feeling of being cramped (even if it's not) that length way does.

Number 2 for sure. What screen size are you likely to get width ways? Remember you'll also be sitting closer. Also lose the armchair and put a lamp or media rack there.

Number 2 - but mount the rears on the wall to the sides (above the door level, pointing down to the listening position). You can use the AVR setup to adjust volume for the different distances..

Thanks. Arm chair was just something to fill on the floor planner space, I probably wouldn't buy one :)

Can't remember what I worked the screen size out to be, need to double check what Optoma projector I currently have and recheck the dimensions. It wouldn't be far off my current setup, a bit smaller. TV in the picture is 32"

Would it be silly to have the sofa backed up to the outside wall? A sort of mirror image of the current width way. E.g. would it be a concern for any damp? I've always been told to keep things off the outside walls.

Thanks

Length ways will sound better (less likely to be in a nodal point/at the mercy of standing waves) and also probably yield a better sized picture from the PJ. It's not as 'liveable' as width ways though, clearly there's more space to get about and whatnot that way around. Depends on your priorities I guess. :)

The option of a longer corner sofa is one I am considering, this was just a draft idea furniture wise. Being that I want a corner sofa and a normal one. But one massive corner could work :D

Sound wise and picture wise, I agree, I would definitely benefit from it being length ways.

I think my main concern was that as it's a new build I was thinking of getting cabling run by the builders, but the more I think about it, the more likely it is going to be that I run my own HDMI & speaker cabling, but just have them put in the CAT5/6 if they can.

With that layout, width but with the sofa closer to the TV so the speakers aren't on top of you.

If you didn't have a door either end length ways then that way.

The doors length ways are the problems, good sir!

Projector one way and TV the other would not be to my liking, although I had considered it!
