I just got my nice new G5 delivered today :)

Its what should have been produced in the first iteration because it now has two thumb buttons instead of one large one. The scroll wheel now seems a little better - but not hugely - and it's now easier to click the middle mouse button. Also the mouse seems quieter than its predecessor as now the thumb button(s) are almost silent and the scroll is a little smoother.

I have one noticed one sad fact though. A drop in manufacturing quality :( The mouse itself appears to be fine and feels great...but its the little things....

The box of weights that comes with the mouse have subtly been altered to something that is obviously cheaper to manufacture. The box itself is marginally larger, while the weights themselves now lack that little rubber seal around the middle that keeps them tight in place in the cradle. Also the foam used for the box is cheaper. Its not a big deal - but its a drop in quality and sadly that's the way with these big companies.

I would still recommend this mouse though, it's a welcome update if you have missed the seconds thumb button!

Nice review, im looking for a wireless mouse, the microsoft intelli 300 or whatever one im using now is utter crap, doesnt even work when its like half a metre away from the receiver :o

Ah let me recommend that you do not get the Logitech MX5000 Bluetooth desktop. I got this as a replacement set to my broken 3100 set (if that's what it was called I cant remember now!) and I hate it. The mouse is nowhere near as responsive and the keyboard is terrible. The keyboard, if left for more than a minute, will double type the first character you enter as it comes out of its power saving mode and regularly 'hangs' for up to and over a minute when I use winamp. Its a huge disappointment of a product and it uses bluetooth as well and like always I find the range abysmal (wouldn't use more than 75cm away)....this all prompted the purchase of a wired mouse and keyboard and i only use the wireless when i use the projector...

Not to sound overly ranty, but its been a while since there was a good wireless desktop set from anyone. I wonder what the MS8000 will be like ;)

Did you own an original G5, if so does this new one still have the same type of surface i.e. it doesnt let dirt etc build up on it like normal crappy plastic mouses. ?

I do have the original (see my price check in relevant area) but i have not used it enough yet to determine...but it does appear to be very similar apart from the blue casing which is more textured than previously and isn't as coarse.

The only reason why i didn't want a G5 was because of the single side button, now that it's sorted i may end up getting this when/if my MX510 packs up.

What's the model number of the mouse? I can't seem to find it on logitech's site

Its quite prominent on the Logitech site - I found it immediately...
Ah, it's only on the Logitech UK website atm, couldn't find it on the US site. That's kinda strange
