New Lounge PC build help

The main difference is that X570 supports PCIe gen 4, but for most of us PCIe gen 3 is more than enough anyway.

The Gigabyte X570 Gaming X you linked has approx equivalent VRM to the MSI B450 Tomahawk, so I don't see any reason to pay the extra.

day and night between the two......

10 x PPak 60Amp units (1H+2L) with 2x PPak 60Amp 2h2l for SoC

B450 MSI

4 x (2x 4C029N 46amp Low side + 2x 4C024N 78amp High side) with 2x 4C029N 46amp for SoC

Despite its decent VRM spec on paper, it just doesn't perform well enough:

X570 designed to run 16 cores plus . B450 aren't bar itx .
X570 Budget boards aren't pretty but has uses in right cases .
B450 still nails it for gaming and budget systems nicely though .
B550 is nice though :) along with nice excitement for Rx 5500 xt :D

Something went wrong in the design process, because some X570 motherboards can barely handle the 12 core.

Unless the following motherboards are much cheaper, I don't see any reason to purchase them since their VRMs have already been shown to get really hot when using the 12 core 3900X:
Gigabyte X570 Gaming X
MSI X570-A Pro
MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi
MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus
MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi

Will this board support SLI? In the future I am going to replace my 2nd 980Ti in my main rig with a 2080Ti or 3080Ti(whatever its called) and so want to make sure SLI is supported.

EDIT: Just seen it wont with the below text, can anyone recommend a B450 board that will?
you are correct to try and keep your two 980Ti's as they will still perform admirably and yet if you sold them you may only get £300-400 pounds for both. However you can buy a 2080 for just over £600 if you fancy just having a single graphics card.

personally I have never gone down the 2 graphics card route. For myself I refer a single but better GPU, and have sold my previous card to help pay for the new one.

I agree that X570 are designed to handle more cores. But also agree that something has gone wrong with the cheaper boards.

However a gigabyte aorus elite for £210 or better will be a very good board for years to come.

Anyone? Before I order..

I would go with a Ryzen R5 3600 and MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX.

You can go with cheaper Ram like the Team Group 3000MHz.

That case is a bit meh. The side panel is also probably Acrylic which will scratch easily. Also it says £65 when I click on it.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 34 esports duo over the 212 Evo. And no need for the thermal paste.

I need SLI support which rules out B450. Then I looked at expensive X570 boards which has made me look at going intel which I’m more familiar with and what I use in my main rig.

Case has gone up in price. Not that bothered about cosmetics to a certain degree, as it’s either you to be between the sofa and wall or behind the tv.

No need for thermal paste? Does the CPU come with it?

I wouldn't bother with SLI for gaming as it is pretty much dead these days. A single card is the way to go.

The Bitfenix case doesn't look like the airflow is that good, and they are pretty old designs if I am not mistaken. The Fractal Focus G is a pretty good case for a bit less cash. It comes with a couple of fans so you would only need to buy 1 x 120mm for the rear exhaust.

Yeah all cpu coolers come with paste either pre-applied or in a sachet/tube etc.
