New Mac Mini rumoured..

Mini DisplayPort - whyyyyyy. There's not as much need to save space in something like that, just give us full-fat DisplayPort (or HDMI).

Probably to match up with the new Apple monitor (sorry, uh, Cinema Display). Whole thing seems like a PITA.

I understand why they use DisplayPort, I even sort of understand why they use the Mini version on their laptops, but I don't understand why they want to use the Mini version everywhere.

Motherboard real estate. It means they can make the machine smaller, additionally it means that they can also sell an adaptor that the mass market has jet to support - cher-ching.

Id be interested in this if it runs better than the current 1.83G, ive had mine a few months now and although I do like it, it is pretty slow.

Id definitely hold off if this isnt too far round the corner.

The Mac Mini needs to be more appealing.

I would personally want to see like a semi pro mac, wipe out the mac mini. The mac pro is only so expensive because of the processors, motherboard being able to take so much ram.

If apple use a motherboard which supports one processor and half the amount of ram the mac pro has and maybe keeps or cuts the drive bays to two would be good.

Add a new nvidia graphics card which is likely anyway with maybe a ATI option too for a dedicated graphics card

and have a price tag for £600

there is a gap in the market for this, people who dont need the power and dont want a imac with a built in screen.

Just give us a tower like mac

For those that don't want a laptop..

Mini - small media, desktop replacement for low power requirements. Reuse your monitor, keyboard and other bits without needing to fork out a massive amount.
iMac - for those that want an all-in-one tidy desktop.
MacPro - a no holds barred workstation built for power, that's why it has two CPUs and the option for multiple GPUs (a point that will be more important going forward).

What you want is a iMac tower with replaceable parts and expansion abilities of the MP case? Support wise this becomes expensive as all the others have a set menu approach and you pay enough on the MP that it covers the extra flexibility.

best upgrade for a current intel mac is a 7200 rpm drive and 2gb of memory, quite nippy then :)

waiting with interest to see what the new one looks like though
