New mac user, couple of lion questions...

so i just bought a macbook pro a couple of weeks back, couple of questions which are pretty simple answers i bet...

1. i have it set up so there are pretty much always 5 spaces (desktops) running. I have tried to change the desktop a couple of times and it changes, however when i switch it off and back on it just changes back to the standard one, when i go on system preferences it says its the one i changed it to?

2. when i switch the computer off and back on for some reason all the (or almost all) the programs i have running seem to end up back in one space in not in the separate ones i had them in before i switched it off...

any ideas?

I am also a recent convert and wanted to assign my Win 7 VM to a space.

Right click program>options>Assign to Space

System Preferences -> Mission Control
Uncheck, "Automatically rearrange spaces based on most recent use"

I'm really hoping 10.7.2 allows us to drag to rearrange spaces via Mission Control.

I would have expected it in 10.7 but alas it wasn't to be.
