Greetings.
Today my 2nd hand Mini turned up that I got off ebay.
Why the hell did I not get one before?!?!?
2 minutes after doing a re installation (old owner had left some cack on there), I plug my DV Camera into the firewire port, open up the movie creator package, it sees the camera is attached, import the video, cut/edit/title, movie done :)

Now why the hell doesn't Windows work like this? I didn't have to install anything extra, mess around with drivers or configuration, it just plain worked without any intervention (unless you take issue with having to plug the firewire cable in yourself LOL).

I have had the footage from our trip to the USA in January sat on the tape since we got back without getting my PC to do what the Mac just did in minutes. Maybe I got something wrong? Who knows.

I am converted already :D

Welcome to Mac. I don' have a Mac yet unfortunately, but the money is burning a hole in pocket (waiting for WWDC) And as they say, once you go Mac, you never go back. What's the spec of your machine?

Its an old mini with 1.25 G4 and 512 Ram. I have ordered a 1 gig stick to swap in there though.
Extra hard disk space will be taken care of by my USB/Firewire 500GB.
It doesn't seem to be too bad speed wise, just a tiny bit more oomph may help though when opening up a couple of apps.

I don't know. Windows works fine for me, insert camera, wait about 20secs for it to load, lift video off, edit video, end.

Maybe it is a problem with the user? ie. YOU!

I don't know but once you've had Mac, you don't go back. :)

I have ponced around with computers for over 15 years now and yet using a Mac never ceases to surprise me. I love them. :)

I must say I agree...I actually kind of like XP, but now with vista I doubt I'll ever use windows again unless I have to. If I did end up buying a 'normal' pc I'd either install cracked OS X or Linux as my primary OS.

No, no problem with the user and there's no need to be a **** about it either is there? If you are trying to suggest that I cant plug a lead in then you are sorely mistaken
I get paid a damn fine wage for fixing peoples PC problems and have done for over a decade. Fixing PC software and hardware problems every day of the week and then coming home to do them too gets a bit boring TBH so I dont tend to spend too long looking for a solution when its my own kit.
Same way as someone who repairs ovens for a living just wants to cook his food and doesn't want to have to fix the oven each night to do it.

I do have a pretty decent spec laptop running Vista at the moment and I must say that it seems to have sapped all of its performance away since the "upgrade". By comparison my PC rig which is quite a lot lower spec is running XP and seems snappy as ever really.

Apologies at my tone earlier. I admit I was having a unwarranted poke at your post. I too am a Mac user and it does work just as it says, though so does my Vista and XP installs on the other partition of the Macbook. Vista I find doesn't take that much away from the speed of any operations performed and this is on a 1.8ghz Athlon.

Just presumed that you were jumping for joy and totally disregarding any Microsoft product as inferior and not meeting the standards set by almighty Apple Inc, which is evidently not happening. :)

Sorry for sounding like a tit, my tooth-ache seems to have annoyed me more than I thought.

I think it's the nonsensical idea of 'once you've had Mac, you don't go back' that gets me. Why there has to be this constant bickering between the two groups of OS users, I don't know. I'm sure most people have a preference, but it's the way it's all expressed that just seems immature.

It's just the fan boys that do that, hell, even Steve and ol' Bill get along.

I used to go "Mac? Pfft, get a proper computer!"

But now, after using one for just under a month it's "Mac? Yes please!"

How much did you pay for it?

Am thinking of getting one for a media centre.

£190 with Office 2004 and the postage.
Wonder if there is some way of getting front row on there though for media centre usage, cant seem to find it as a "buyable" application on Apple site.

not front row as such, but a program called remote buddy does everything front row does and more, is fully customizable (ie you can set the remote to make it take photo's with a isight)
