Hello all,

Now when my sisters MacBook is here and connected to my network it pops up under 'places' on the Pro and her iTunes library becomes available etc.

Now with this new MacBook, I just cannot get it to see the Pro or share the iTunes library.

Any one got any ideas?

Both the Pro and MacBewk are connected via WiFi

Both running latest versions of everything. :)

If it helps I can browse the web and use MSN on the Bewk without any issues.

I'm having issues sharing from my new MacBook too.

Can do it on Tiger fine on my iBook but not very well with Leopard and MacBook.

Heres a thought.

Both the MacBook and the Pro are showing the Users the same - I.E. "Jacob Ellwood"

Even though their computer names are different, maybe its conflicting?

Change the computer name, that should work. We are required at uni to change our computer names to stop conflicts.

I changed it and still nothing.

I'm reinstalling OSX now, its not asif I had anything on it :p

When I first turned it on I wasn't at home and it asked me about connecting to a network and I said it wouldn't be....so that might have something to do with it. Hence the reinstall.

Did you try restarting it before you did that?:p

Sometimes my MacBook randomly refuses to file share but is fine after a restart.

Yep, tried a few restarts after changing computer name etc - if this doesnt work ill reboot the router as well.

I would have done that before but that meant going to the lounge, and my flat mate was getting laid and making a lot of noise. so i didnt want to walk past her room :p

Savage.

Indeed. It was epic.

Fair play to her bf tbh :p

Right its done, the laptop is now picking up a "thomson" which I assume is the flatmates laptop and the Pro isn't picking it up.

*looks at installing disk*

*looks at Pro*

NOOOOOOO!!!!!

I refuse to :p - atleast the laptop is seeing something else now, which is a plus :D

Might be the Pro in that case.

Not worth re-installing surely. I guess Time Machine makes it easier.

Don't use Time Machine, I never got round to sorting out a backup system for over a TB of data.

EDIT: I can create a network between the 2 and copy files then. But that means disconnecting both from the net.

How annoying.

Thomson is what BT Home Hubs show up as.

Have you tried going from Finder, to Go > Connect To Server > Browse?

I seem to remember that kicking things along if machines weren't showing up in the sidebar of their own accord in the past.
