What would you got for? The new Macbook or a used last gen Macbook Pro? I can probably pick up a MBP for around 750-800 on the bay.

Depends , do you have an external monitor that youd like to use, if so you would have to buy an extra adapter on top of the new macbook as they use displayport only.
Last gen MBP is also more powerful with larger screen and has firewire (if thats important to you).
New macbook has the new unibody construction, more portable and only comes with glossy screen.
So it depends on what you want really. I would take the MBP over the MB if they were around the same price.
