New MacBook Pro - Hilariously slow internet

So just got a brand new 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display but the internet is being ridiculously slow and I have no idea why. Getting about 50kb/s when all the other computers in my house (windows) get about 2mb/s. This is my first time owning a mac so don't know if its something obvious I've missed. I've had a look on google and there are a few things about disabling extensions, changing DNS setting but I don't want to go about messing with things when I don't really know what I'm doing. Getting the same issue using both chrome and safari. Any ideas?

Are other devices in your house taking up your bandwidth?

Nah this is happening even when all the other devices are turned off.

Reset my router, appears to be going at a more reasonable speed now. Yes I probably should've done that before starting the thread....
