Hiya guys,

I'm looking to order my first apple today or tomorrow. It is going to be a Macbook, 1.83ghz.

I'm trying to decided on the amount of RAM to get, is 1GB from the apple store enought or am I better off buying 2GB (where is the best place to get it from? (UK)) and upgrading myself.

I also wondered is getting 1 1GB stick now from a store and running with 1256Mb is a possibility, how bad is peformance outside duel channel mode? Anyone have any benchmarks?

I was also wondering if anyone has a link to a guide on removing all the stuff installed as default that I do not need - I thought I had got away from this when I decided to leave win behind!

The stuff installed isn't that bad - if you want you can just click and drag whatever you don't want from the application folder to the trash and they're removed for good.

So far, with abit of multitasking on OSX, 1GB is sufficient for me - even when bootcamp into WinXP, it's sufficient. If you want to Parallel OSX and WinXP, then 2GB is the needed by many people's books.

Hope this helps.

Think that is pretty much what I wanted to know, thanks :)

Guess the only thing i'm still wondering is am I better off just having the 1Gb or upgrading 1256MB myself, trouble is I don't know anyone with a macbook in this config.

I think it's been mentioned somewhere else - try to keep the two RAM modules the same size. The computer will run faster in dual-channel mode which you won't get if you mix and match.

EDIT: That'll teach me not to read the entire post - you're already aware of this. ;)
