Hi all
I am about to get myself a new PC and have come up with the following specs
Can you let me know if anything should be changed at all?
My current PC is an old AMD 2GHz so this should be a vast improvement!

Antec Performance One P190 + 1200 UK - mid tower - extended ATX

ASUS P5N-T Deluxe AiLifestyle Series - motherboard - ATX - nForce 780i SLI

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 / 3 GHz processor

Kingston HyperX memory - 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) - DIMM 240-pin - DDR II

ASUS EAH3870X2/G/HTDI - graphics adapter - 2 GPUs - Radeon HD 3870 - 1 GB

WD Caviar GP WD10EACS - hard drive - 1 TB - SATA-300

Sony NEC Optiarc DRU-190S - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM drive - Serial ATA

Many thanks

Welcome to the forums. You've got some interesting choices in there, you could probably achieve 99% of the performance at a much lower cost if you are willing to overclock a little. This might do for instance and although I don't know how much that system would cost you I suspect this will be cheaper.

to be honest i would rather stay away from overclocking as i have had a bad experience of that in the past (my own fault lol)
why would you make that many changes, is that purely a cost decision or performance based?

Many thanks for your input

A fair amount would be down to cost, put simply you don't need a 1200w PSU unless you are going for Tri/Quad-SLi, watercooling, huge overclocks and lots of hard drives. If you really like the P190 then I'd suggest trying to find it without the PSU and buying a more sensible PSU in the 500w-700w range as that will be more than capable.

The GX2 is a bit better than the 3870X2 I believe but both may be overkill unless you have a large monitor.

There isn't any inherantly wrong with any of the parts although picking a Nforce 780i (SLi) based motherboard with a 3870X2 (Crossfire) is a bit unusual. I know that I've done the reverse but mainly for the features of the X38 and it is cheaper, if the P45 based motherboards are as good as the P35s they will replace then I'd go with one of them instead.

The only reason i was going for the Nforce 780i and 3870X2 is that i had already brought the Nforce 780i and my friend said he could get me a 3870X2 really cheap
Would i find any problems using these two together then?

No problems using them both together, if you have got a good deal on them then go for it. I simply wasn't aware that you had any of the parts so was suggesting options as if all from fresh.

hows this

IMO wait for the new cards.

thanks for that - it looks great
the only change i would need to make is the HDD but that wouldnt be such a huge cost
thanks very much for that - i appreciate it
