New Machine For £300 Help!

What do you intend on using the machine to do? If it's a gaming rig it'll be a little sparse. :)

Judging from what you wrote, you already have an HDD, optical disk, PSU, and RAM. What are the specs of the PSU and RAM?

could this be of any use?

i would also add an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775), i took 300 as the absolute maximum the OP can afford.

Um that’s a nice spec maybe I should reword what I said I be using the machine for some light gamming like bf2 and call of duty 4 online mostly

i already have hard drives 2 sata and 2 ide + dvd rewriter and a good psu fsp blue storm 500watt

It’s been a while since I got a new pro at the moment it’s a p4 Prescott 3.0GHz

But I don’t really know what’s best these days amd or Intel I wouldn’t mind making the move over from Intel.

Last amd I had was an old 1.4 GHz k6 ha

So any advice would be great mind around the £300 mark! Thanks

The typical ingredients in a build are:
CPU (may need cooler)
Motherboard
Memory
Graphics Card
Hard disk
Optical disk
Case
PSU

It sounds like you need everything but the hard and optical disk drives and PSU.

Is your optical drive IDE? If so that will limit your motherboard choices since most only have provisions, nowadays, for two IDE devices. You mentioned having three which means choosing one of the rare mobos, or a PCI controller card.

Intel is faster than AMD at the moment, thought it was significantly worse than AMD at the time you got your Prescott. ;)
