My old man has got £600 - £700, and he wants a new machine. All he wants to play is Flight Simulator X. He doesn't need a monitor, or an operating System, he just wants a new machine.

I told him the guys on overclockers will sort him out. Can you come up with a decent spec for this amount? He'd be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Right first of I would say FSX is massively CPU bound and intensive. It's all about raw clock speed so overclocking is a must even with the latest Haswell processors. GPU's are less important to FSX and the general consensus is that nvidia were the ones to go for a couple of years ago although that may have changed more recently so I would spend some time looking around various flight simulator forums such avsim etc. RJC's spec looks spot on and will allow some overclocking of the i5-4670K. I would just check the GPU. The 7950 is a great bang for buck video card right now but nvidia historically were stronger with FSX.

Finally FSX, is all about tweaking and setting it up right. If possible try to recycle a hard drive as a dedicated FSX drive (makes a huge amount of difference especially is there's going to be a lot of add-ons etc).

Here's the Bible in terms of tweaks and setting up. Also has some hardware guides and info. Link.
