Hello,

Currently in the midst of buying a gaming machine (although not hardcore), would just like some thoughts in terms of compatibility, any help would be great thanks.

Case: Coolermaster HAF 922
Mobo: Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AMD 890GX (Socket AM3)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition"
RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
PSU: 750w ATX
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 64MB Cache Hard Disk Drive SATA 6 Gb/s 126MB/s <4.2ms 7200rpm
GFX: ATI HD 4870 (getting something newer next year, maybe 5970 if the price comes down)

I already own the case, gfx and psu.

I am more concerned about the compatibility of the RAM but i think this is an ok setup for around £500.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

I havent looked but yes there will be manual overclocking and possibly even automatic oc in the bios.....if not theres plenty of people on here who can help ;)

heh happy to save money by pressing a couple buttons, thanks! :P

i'm not so good with RAM, did a little research and the ram review states its for intel i5/7, reviewers said it was fine to put with AMD, also the mobo supported RAM is DDR3 1866(OC) / 1333 / 1066 MHz dual channel, but the recommended RAM was 1600 Mhz, is this right?

thanks again

I would go with Stulid's ram....but yeh it doesnt make a difference if the ram is for intel or whatever...the motherboard will automatically set the speed.

+1 for the ram with better timings :)

I would say go for the Phenom II 955 and just overclock it.....

All you need to do is raise the cpu multiplier from its default of 16* to 17 times to be at the same speed as the 965 and you should be able to do 18* without changing the voltage (3.6 gig). Also if you overclock the north bridge from its stock 1.8 gig speed to 2.4 easy (more with voltage) you will get another free speed increase :)

Thankyou for the recommended RAM :)

Haha i have no idea how to do any of that, but it won't take me long to research that.

Thankyou all, really hope this turns out as well as i think!
