Hi guys,

I've had my system for ages now. (can't believe how quickly time has gone)

I'm looking to try out elite dangerous and was wondering if I could get away with just updating my gfx card to play it.

AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 "XXX Edition" 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
Antec 300 Gaming Case and Antec Basiq Plus 550W Modular PSU
OCZ Intel Extreme XMP 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3X13334GK)

I don't play anything else apart from wow.

thoughts?

my budget is £200 to £300

cheers

I wouldn't spend that much on just a gpu to go into that, far to old & slow

£100 amd 7950

find a 6 core version of your cpu secondhand & overclock it, or just try and overclock your cpu first

no doubt youll have people linking to gpus for £400 , seems the trend, just because you have that much to spend doesn't mean you have to if there is something cheaper that'll do the job just fine

As above a faster AM3 CPU and 7950 seems bang on target. I would try to increase the RAM too and add an SSD.

With £300 I think you can squeeze in a new cpu, mobo and gpu.

Your current mobo, doesnt support the FX chips unfourtunatly.

I would grab, an AMD 8320 cpu.

A mobo under £100 theres loads of cheap ones ranging from £40 - £100.

And spend the remaining budget on a AMD 280 or GTX 760 graphics card.

That lot should come in under £300.

You will need some ram tho, ideally 8Gb. Maybe if you get a cheaper mobo, you can squeeze in the ram too.

Question tho, will the 7950 support DX12 and or does it support mantle?

The 7950 is def a cheaper alernative to the 280. But only if it will support DX12 and Mantle. If it doesnt it's a false economy as it will be out dated in about 6 months.

Yeah. I'm a bit of a lurker. ;)

Read the forums a lot when I was looking to get my pc from overclockers.

been faultless since I put it together.

i'm leaning towards getting the 7950. My cpu is overclocked to 3.2ghz
