Hi Guys,

This is my first venture into General Hardware, so hello to all.
Just need some advice/tips really.

Got a machine for christmas 2 years ago, and to say the least, its getting old. I've upgraded it a little, but it's just not keeping up with what I want it to do anymore, getting quite slow. Think it's probably cos I've got a single core processor, and its a 754 (think thats right) socket, and there's literally no upgrades for that type on the market :/

So basically, over the next few months, i'm looking to upgrade. I don't really want anything TOP of the range, and I'm not dedicated enough to use it 24/7 for gaming and such like.
Really just looking for a completely new machine to replace old one.
Quad Core appeals to me, and could be 'relatively' future proof for a few years, so that could be a good investment. Only problem is, I've got no idea when it comes to the really technical stuff, so this is why I'm here, so hopefully some of you guys could give me some tips :)
Don't really wanna spend too much, and I'll be buying it bit by bit every month probably, to spread out cost.

Probably a chance for you guys to have some fun spec-ing me up a new machine, but like I said, keep it within reason, and some general info would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance to any replies :)

Cheers guys!

tbh you'll be better saving up your money til you can afford to buy it in one go, by sounds of it any new parts you buy you're not going to be able to make use of in your old system, and even if you did it over just 3 months chances are the things you buy now, and dont use for 3 months would be cheaper in 3 months, meaning you'd be throwing money away really. Wait til you can do it all in one go then let us know

IF at all possible i would buy it all in one go as well. Take out a little loan (if financially feasible) and pay it back with the amount you were going to spend on the individual parts each month. How much is the maximum you want to spend?. If it lasts two years then 24 monthly payments is the way i would look at it.

Thats what i will do with my next build.

Yeah I thought that. Because I'm not really looking to buy now, it's pointless pricing up, as most things will be cheaper by then, and no doubt newer models will be in circulation etc. Saving up the money is a much better idea though, didn't really think of that tbh :)

I don't really need a loan, but like I just said, saving the money is a good idea. I rekon I don't really wanna exceed £600-700. So really just the best spec for around that price, and like I originally said, nothing TOP of the range, just good enough to cope :)
