New macro: spoon chrysanthemum

Had a play with the new 5D to see what it could do. Quite happy with the results, although I've already spotted one thing that I need to adjust with the shot.

I've never really done the whole 'studio' style of photography so I'm quite chuffed with how this turned out - certainly room for improvement but not bad for a hastily cobbled together setup on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

That's a really nice shot, great subject and really well pulled off. What did you use as lighting, I'm guessing you've got something to give a really diffuse light?

Thanks for the comments, Golden. It's actually lit from my lounge window, so nothing really special used.

It's the reverse side of some black mounting board I had knocking about. Unfortunately it's more off-white than brilliant-white, but it's all I had to hand.

Canon EF 10mm f/2.8 macro. Just realised I've wiped the EXIF off the JPEG!

On a side note, does anyone use extension tubes with their lenses?

How close do extension tubes allow you to get? using the 55mm micro 2.8 on its own I can get a few cm from the subject but haven't tried ETs yet so was wondering!

Virtually touching if you want but getting enough light onto the subject if you're working really close is a problem. This LINKY
will give you all you need to calculate things, even based on Noink gear
