New matx build, some advice needed please

They are all cool, its the nature of the chip.

But you need to pick one that again as Ive mentioned 3 or 4 times now, isnt much wider than the actual PCi-E bracket.

I picked out an EVGA above that is the same width as its bracket.

It is no problem.

P.S did you not also need a HDD?

How much do you want to spend on a keyboard?

I'm ok for a hard drive. I have 2 x 256gb ssd's and a 2tb hdd.

Amount to spend on a keyboard I'm not really sure. My last keyboard was a Logitech G15 which I loved. I dunno about 50 - 60 quid someit like that.

My basket is complete apart from a keyboard. I am not ready to order just yet anyroad but will be in a week or two.

Final basket exc keyboard

A 980 is doable for £1500 I think your going to want more GPU power on a 1440P screen. Some of this is on this week only.

Going cheaper on the PSU (your one is overkill), switch to an air cooler and use a cheaper motherboard taking advantage of a bundle saving. For £5 more you can switch to the Gigabyte Gaming 5, Asus about £15 more.

That air cooler does not fit inside the case.

The bigger PSU was for future SLI opportunities.

Not sure how wise it would be SLIing in that case without reference coolers.

Just googled the case, 120mm maximum hight is very limiting. Even a tower cooler with a 92mm fan are normally over 120mm, your looking at something like:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-RT&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2666

Or blowing the budget and putting in the OcUK AIO at £75 leaving £20 for a keyboard but that's up to the OP.

For me spending £1500 and only getting a 970 would be disappointing. I would drop to an i5 before dropping to a 970.

I was looking at changing a few things in order to get a 980. I have plenty of time to mix and match.

Thanks for your input b0rn2sk8

I wont be going the SLi route.

I also prefer Modular PSU's just because you can get rid of half the cables you don't need.

As daft as it sounds I prefer gigabyte or asus for my motherboards and the fact the VII Gene has an intel LAN it comes out on top for me.

Do we think 550w is enough as just having read somewhere someone recommended nothing less than a 650w for a 980?

It should be enough, its the Amps on the 12v rail that are important.

It has 45A which is bang on the mark for a 550W PSU.

A 600/620/650W PSU wont hurt and will provide more amp should you oc the CPU+card.
