hi all.

i have the MBP. Intel based.

Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz, 2gb Ram (upgrading to 3gb), 160gb HDD, 17" Glossy Screen.

Or is there not much difference between this and the new?

I upgraded from that spec to the "new" 2.4GHz one.

The best part about the new model (for me) is the 160GB 7200rpm + 4GB RAM + Hi Res screen :)

If you can get a good price for the machine then it's definitely worth the upgrade.. some people might say wait until January though, as the new 45nm chips will be in the Macs by then.

Only if you have money to burn. You wont notice the bump in processor. You might not notice the extra GB of RAM and hard drive speed depending on usage. The only compelling thing that would make me upgrade would be the extra resolution on the screen, and only then if it was causing me a serious problem.

To be quite honest, I'd still be hard pushed saying an upgrade in January would be worth it unless Apple pull something really special out of the bag.

I'm considering replacing my MacBook (which I've had 12 months) with a MBP but theres no way I'll be doing it soon because spec-wise I cant justify spending the money for what I think is a slight improvement.

Not much point in getting the new one. My father has one, it was basically the same speed. The X1600 in mine was faster on a few things aswell.

It's also bottlenecked by the slower RAM Bus than the FSB, the FSB of the CPU being 800mhz and the RAM being 667mhz. Wouldnt say it would be worth it unles you really want 4GB of RAM and a 7200rpm drive.
