Hey!
Roughly 3 years ago i bought myself a new pc for one sole purpose:
To play "The Battle for Middle Earth"
My original system spec was:

Intel Sempron, 1.6ghz processor (single Core)
Geforce 5200 128mb grahpics card (AGP)
512mb RAM
Unsure of the Motherboard
17 Inch Monitor
Windows XP
75GB Hardrive.

Fairly Awful i know, even for the time and lately even running Wow has been a chore for this old crappy machine.
Since then i have upgraded it to 1GB of RAM and bought a 20"" Monitor, but this machine is now so outdated, and i want to be able to play other game like Darkfall:Online, WAR and TES Oblivion.

So i was thinking if i could use some of the parts from my old system (RAM,Monitor,OS) i could build a cheaper PC, with some of last years techonolgy thats capable of running Modern(ish) games.
So i had a look around and found:

1) Asrock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-016-AK&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=)
=£40.21

2) AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000 3.10GHz (Socket AM2)
=£68.99

3)Asus ATI Radeon HD 3650 Vcool Silent 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
=£54.04

I was alittle unsure on which graphics card to choose but this one seemed okay, although i realise a change of choice may be neccesary.
As you can see, i am looking to be as cheap as possiable but not to the extent that i sacrifice to much performance.

I have basic knowledge of how a computer runs, computer compenents and how to build a computer, but i came to the overclockers forums for advice to see if this would be a good choice, a viable choice, a smart choice etc.
Iv also tried to make sure the components would work together by choosing the same socket mother board for the GPU, etc but im not sure if there are any performance issues i do not know off, example if that certain graphics card dosent work with that type of processor etc.

Just to recap the new System would be:
WIndows XP: Home
AMD Athlon 64 3.10Ghz (Am2)(Dual Core)
Asrock Motherboard (Am2)(PCI)
ATI Radeon 3650, 512mb (PCI)
1GB Ram
75GB Hardrive (Will upgrade later)
1GB RAM
(Would upgrade to 3GB after a month or so, just not adding RAM to keep my costs minimal for the moment)

With a Samsung SyncMaster 20"" (Widescreen)

With a bought total of £163.24
I hope i have given enough information and i apologise if my knowledge seems basic.
Thanks for any advice in adance!
Will.

I just build my better half a really cheap rig for l4d and tf2. That gets by fine with reallly cheap 2gb of slowish ddr2 and an athlon x2 at 2.8ghz. It performs admirably.

this would be a much better choice of graphics card for £7 more.

For the motherboard I would prefer to get something like this which is still keeping it cheap.

If i wanted a cheap PC to play games on, I would look around for a 2nd hand 8800GT.

Im still wondering if there would be any peformance issues with this machine?
Would these components work well together? I just dont want to have to fork out the cash for something to go wrong :(

This is what I would go for. It would be a big big improvement on your old setup which you could still sell on for few pounds on a auction site.

Just below max budget

Thanks for the help man!
God dam VAT is a bitch!

I think id upgrade the processor to a 3.10Ghz, slightly over the budget but then i think that system would last me while!

Fair enough I went for the 7750 as its newer model, probably wont get as hot and because its a black edition your should be able to clock it to 3.10 or more with a decent cooler.

Your never gonna get a good comp using an AGP graphics interface and that CPU. Like some of these guys have done already I would spec a completly new comp. You might be able to rescue the case.

I know mate, the whole point of this thread was to spec a new "Medium Quality PC"
Iv posted a link to all the things i was planning on buying, including a new processor and a PCI motherboard and graphics card.
Im not salvaging anything from my old machine other then possiably the hardrive. And ofcourse the monitor and OS.

The 7750+ is a lot faster than the 6000 even though it has a slightly lower clock speed, because it's based on the Phenom architecture, which is miles better than the old Athlon one.
