Hey!
Roughly 3 years ago i bought myself a new pc for one sole purpose:
To play "The Battle for Middle Earth"
My original system spec was:
Intel Sempron, 1.6ghz processor (single Core)
Geforce 5200 128mb grahpics card (AGP)
512mb RAM
Unsure of the Motherboard
17 Inch Monitor
Windows XP
75GB Hardrive.
Fairly Awful i know, even for the time and lately even running Wow has been a chore for this old crappy machine.
Since then i have upgraded it to 1GB of RAM and bought a 20"" Monitor, but this machine is now so outdated, and i want to be able to play other game like Darkfall:Online, WAR and TES Oblivion.
So i was thinking if i could use some of the parts from my old system (RAM,Monitor,OS) i could build a cheaper PC, with some of last years techonolgy thats capable of running Modern(ish) games.
So i had a look around and found:
1) Asrock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-016-AK&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=)
=£40.21
2) AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000 3.10GHz (Socket AM2)
=£68.99
3)Asus ATI Radeon HD 3650 Vcool Silent 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
=£54.04
I was alittle unsure on which graphics card to choose but this one seemed okay, although i realise a change of choice may be neccesary.
As you can see, i am looking to be as cheap as possiable but not to the extent that i sacrifice to much performance.
I have basic knowledge of how a computer runs, computer compenents and how to build a computer, but i came to the overclockers forums for advice to see if this would be a good choice, a viable choice, a smart choice etc.
Iv also tried to make sure the components would work together by choosing the same socket mother board for the GPU, etc but im not sure if there are any performance issues i do not know off, example if that certain graphics card dosent work with that type of processor etc.
Just to recap the new System would be:
WIndows XP: Home
AMD Athlon 64 3.10Ghz (Am2)(Dual Core)
Asrock Motherboard (Am2)(PCI)
ATI Radeon 3650, 512mb (PCI)
1GB Ram
75GB Hardrive (Will upgrade later)
1GB RAM
(Would upgrade to 3GB after a month or so, just not adding RAM to keep my costs minimal for the moment)
With a Samsung SyncMaster 20"" (Widescreen)
With a bought total of £163.24
I hope i have given enough information and i apologise if my knowledge seems basic.
Thanks for any advice in adance!
Will.
