Hi,

i have just ordered my kit, i did want to ask a few questions but i had to wait patiently for my forum account to be activated for 4 days, turns out i couldnt wait and the kit is on its way. i have been reading hundreds of threads and post on this forum and found some very helpful information which i have used to generate my list and created a wish list for future improvements.

i am an electronics design engineer and my use will mainly be based around PCB design, VHDL / FPGA design, microcontroller software design, CAD, and solidworks. But on top of that i will be using for media and might try a little PC gaming if i have the time (my PS3 gets very dusty sometimes).

here is what i have ordered -

I7 950
ASUS P6X58D-E
PALIT GTX460 1GB sonic platinum
Corsair Dominator 6GB CMP6GX3M3A1600C8
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB
Corsair 850AX
Corsair 600T
2 X BenQ G2420HD 24
Samsung SATA Blue Ray SH-B083L/RSBP

got that lot for just under £1300 delivered (mainly form other suppliers) which i was fairly happy with.

does the list look ok?

most parts should be here this week, apart from the case of course, it was listed as four week lead time for pre order, after i ordered, they specified a delivery date of 25/10/10!!! i was just going to run the components up on my desk, but thats a long time, so might have to order another case for the time being, i was thinking a fractal Design R2 or R3 if i wait just over a week.

i want to get some SSD's in the system, but the general feeling i get is that it is probably worth waiting a little longer to get better deals and performance.

i want to start trying a little overclocking, nothing extreme, just like to tinker, so i need to sort out an aftermartket CPU cooler, i like the looks of the H70/H50 coollers, and they would fit right in place in the 600T case, but after reading some reviews i am not sure.

what heatsinks could i use in my setup (bearing in mind the dominator RAM)?

theres nothing exciting in my build, but ill put some pictures up as i go anyway, and i am sure i will be back for lots of advice and help!

cheers

Looks nice, will keep an eye on this thread :D cooler wise I have the Thermalright Venomous x which gives better performance that the H50 (and I think the H70) and looks bloody good so I recommend it :D

Hi and welcome, looks good, youve obviously done good research
yeah I wouldnt run that lot outside a proper case, and you should be fine with a H50 cooler tbh

welcome, looks like a solid base, i got the i7 930 so not much difference to the 950 part from a higher clock rate. i have got mine oc to 4hz anyway.

case is good to keep everything cool. not sure why you go for a water cooler, air coolers are actually a lot better, my rig is perfect and had no problem apart from mobo which was DOA and had to get it RMA'd

good setup for £1300.... all my stuff costed about the same, but obviously a bit dated... lol dated and it is a month old

i was about to order the 930, but then 950 prices dropped just at the right time, so the extra few notes seemed like a no brainer.

and the reason for water cooling is mainly just for looks, i mean, just look at this layout!
No hotlinking!

welll it looks fairly good, nice and compact, two DVI, one VGA, and a full size HDMI on the back panel. heatsink is fairly substantial, over all build quility is not the hihest i ahve seen, but looks more than fit fur use.

mobo, one display, hdd, optical drive, wireless modules, and dvi cables have turned up! getting closer :)

this mobo is a work of art! BR drive looks nice to. have not had a chance to looky at the monitor yet, but the box is much smaller and lighter than i was expecting.

need to figure out how to hide this lot from the misus!

processor turned up from OCUK, never had anything like the I7 950 class, so im feeling like a little kid on xmas eve! CPU packaging was damaged in transit, but everything is fine inside.

shame they send the CPU's with heatsinks, i would rather they didnt and sold the CPU alone for less dollar.

Linking from sites where content can be changed which would be out of your control. Upload to photobucket or something similar, then link. Oh, and welcome. Nice build. Keep us updated. You will soon learn that there is someone building a new PC at least twice a week here. Always good to see new builds and get new ideas.
