I'm new to the forums and been posting quite a bit to try to decide what parts to buy. Anyways I've been looking at gpus and always had amd/ati cards. I was looking to get either an hd 7950/7970 however I've noticed the nvidia 670/680. Are those cards direct competition to each other? And if so what one is the best value for money

If I was going 7970 I was going to get a rev1 gigabyte as I can get a ek full waterblock for it for nothing. Other 7970s seem a bit awkward to tell if they are ref boards for a waterblock. The 280x I don't know anything about them tbh

How does it work out pricewise. I did notice ocuk only has the HIS7970 in stock but from what I can gather that's a ref board. I take it the 280 still offers beter value for money than the nvidia equals

The 290 and 290x are the latest AMD high end stuff. 290 (non ref) is recommended from me at least, assuming price isn't an issue.

290 is equal give or take to nvidias 780, depending on games you play and features you're looking for.

280x over the 770 for price vs performance.

270x is more or less a 7870, not too far off the 7950 when clocked.
