New memory problem

I have this mother board. I bought this ram (not from oc), it arrived today. I know my mobo only supports upto 1333mhz speeds but I thought I would just simply be able to set the memory divider lower, however I can't even get it to post. I tried each stick seperatley but no luck.

Is there anything I could try to get it to work or should I just see if I can return it?

Alright I'll try that tomorrow. I take it this means the ram should theoretically be able to work with my board? I figured I had just been stupid and bought incompatible stuff.

Shorting the cmos worked. Got the ram working and can boot into windows fine.

Got another problem now. When I start up I get the usual mobo screen with options for boot devices and accessing the bios. However after that it takes me to another screen that says something like "mac address not valid in cmos or flash". Now my wifi is constantly stuck on "authenticating" and my lan connection wont even show up at all. :(

I'm gonna try flashing the bios.

I'm pretty sure I busted the board somehow. It's not that the lan isn't working it's that it doesn't exist. It's not in the device manager or anything. And seeing as i need the lan enabled in the bios to enable the wifi thats probably why that isn't working either.

I can't use that driver you linked. I'm on win 7.

I downloaded drivers for the lan but it wont install them because it can't detect the hardware.

I was planning on you using the vista one as a temp solution so you could upgrade to the win7 ones via device manager.
But given that nothing is showing up in device manager that's a bit of an issue. If it's a board which comes with wifi check if it uses a pcie or integrated. if pcie check the card is properly secure/inserted

It's intergrated and it wont even let me use the vista driver it gives me an error telling me im not running a supported os when I try and install.

However I am right now sending this from the PC in question. I installed the wifi connector that comes with my router instead of using the mobos one and it's working. Need to figure out whats wronf with the mobo though because i find my wireless isn't really suitable for gaming at all and usually use ethernet.

Edit: Ok, now my built in wifi is working all of a sudden. Just need to get the ethernet connection to even show up!

Alright well forget the network for now. Back to the ram

I have left the bios settings for it at auto at the moment because I am confused about the manual settings.

When I change it to manual i get predefined timmings i can pick.

This ram is rated at 7-8-7-24

However the maximum options available to me are only 9-6-6-15 :S

Well specifically the first settings i get options "5-9" and the next 2 I get the options " 3-6 DRAM CLOCKS" and then "9-15 DRAM CLOCKS" note how the first option doesn't have DRAM CLOCKS on the end. Any ideas?

It is being picked up as DDR3 but it's running it at 6-6-6-15. :(

What shall I do. I can't imagine it's safe running them at that speed although im running them underclocked to 800 effective at the mo.

Edit:

Ok i set the ram to 1333 but left the timings at auto and now it looks like this

ram.jpg

So it's raised the timings to above their specced speed. Not being able to set them myself is gonna cause troubles ocing though :(

Pretty stupid that I can't set them that high manually.

well i updated to the latest bios in the process of trying to get my net to work; ethernet connection still wont work btw, might have to get a seperate pci card or something. I'll see if there's any tech support I can contact tomorrow and ask about it.

Good news is I've got my cpu too 3.2 without even trying. Couldn't go over 2.8 with my old ram!

Only problem is I set the memory down to 1066 speed so I could overclock which means my timings have now gone too 7-7-7-20 hopefully that wont make it unstable.

Oh yeah another thing. I have predefined options for dram voltage too. RAM says 1.6 closest options i get are 1.53 and 1.64, shall I set it too 1.64?

My mobo is driving me nuts. I was ocing my cpu in the bios, applied it but then it wouldn't even post. So i had to reset the cmos again and now that bloody "Mac addresses invalid in both cmos and flash" message is back, tried rolling the bios back then forward again but it wont go away. However the ethernet connection is now showing in the device manager but it says in device status "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" Oh and now my sound card isn't showing up, nor will the onboard one work

Edit: Ok I sent a message to asrock about the mac thing and they sent me some kind if tool to restore my mac adress. I need to put it on something and boot from it. I've had troubles making bootable cd's before though :(

I'm trying to find my mac address on my board here is a picture of what looks like the same board as mine. Actually that isn't my board at all but the area with all the ports is the same and the stickers are in the same place.

I think that white sticker is the mac address. Mine only cotains numbers, is it normal for a mac address to only have numbers? I've always seen them with both numbers and letters.

I've tried booting using this tool I was sent and I've enterd the number on the sticker but it doesn't seem to do anything

I can only find one number on my mobo that could possibly be the mac address but it doesn't do anything when I use it with the tool i was give.

001966661827

Thats the number. Does it look like a mac address? I'm just thrown because there are no letters (and it doesn't work)
