No doubt, sooner or later I'll get an 4930K, but now with the "horror" scenario of rocketing RAM prices, I think I would be most sensible to get the compatible memory in the house ASAP for the Ivy Bridge-E. I know this new CPU is going to support 1866Mhz native, but the big question is what kind of memory should it get ?
1) The demand is low-profile (no tall heatsinks) on the Ram.
2) At least be able to run 1866Mhz at 1.5v (1.6 max)
3) Be 4x4GB sticks so perhaps a set of two.
I have no intention of major OC.
I'm going to spend max £150 - preferably less
The motherboard used is an Asus P9X79 Pro.
I have been looking at the following kits both 1866Mhz and 2133Mhz since they're basically the same price:
A) 16GB DDR3 G.Skill Ares Series Quad channel memory kit, comprising 4x4GB modules. PC3-17000 memory, 2133MHz with timings of CL11 (11-11-11), 1.6V. Low profile memory modules (height of 32mm / 1.26 inches) with new style Ares heatsinks. Intel XMP ready.
£123.
B) 16GB DDR3 G.Skill Ares Series CL9 quad channel memory kit, comprising 4x4GB modules. PC3-17000 memory, 2133MHz with timings of CL9 (9-11-10-28), 1.65V. Low profile memory modules (height of 33mm / 1.30 inches) with new style blue Ares heatsinks. Intel XMP ready.
£141.
C) 16 GB (4x4GB) G.Skill ARES LP DDR3-1866 C9 , DIMM 240-pin, Low Profile, DDR3, 1866 MHz / PC3-14900, CL9-10-9-28, 1.5 V. Low profile memory modules (height of 33mm / 1.30 inches) with new style blue Ares heatsinks. Intel XMP ready.
£117.
What would be the best choice and are the others to consider ?
