Hi

im looking to upgrade to a new gaming machine but also use a smaller case. im looking for some advise on parts. I have made a list of parts but would welcome advise on changing parts for better performance or because they work well together. So far i have thought of the following,

EVGA GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature w/Backplate 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (02G-P4-2685-KR)

Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail

Asus Rampage IV GENE Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard

Corsair Dominator 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (CMP16GX3M4X1600C7)

OCZ Agility 3 240GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (AGT3-25SAT3-240G)

Silverstone Strider Gold 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply (ST75F-G)

Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive

Silverstone TemJin TJ08B-E Midi Tower Case

Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Looks good to me. Do you really need the Corsair Dominators, could shave some money off there. What about a nice mechanical keyboard to top it off?

thanks, tbh I am not really sure what memory to get, I have been shocking in the past and memory has not really been suitable for the MB I chose so any recommendation on memory would be cool. I have a dinovo edge KB atm which I like due to it having the little touchpad on it as well so it’s good when watching movies/tv to be able to have kb and mouse controls

If it's just for gaming, have you considered the cheaper 3570K? You'll see no performance difference between the two, since games won't use the extra cores/hyperthreading.

There will be no difference in gaming performance between the i7 and a i5 3570k. Could spend the saved money on something else if you wanted to.

+1

Also i'd say is there much need for 16GB RAM if its solely for gaming purposes, wont use more than 4GB really - so id personally go with 8GB

thanks for the comments, i suppose i went for the i7 first to try and future proof. is there any worth in the quad channel memory (i didnt realise the IV had that)

is there not much in it between the 680 and 670? if not i would maybe be tempted to go for an EVGA 670

also i think i prefer the TJ08 case to the arc mini

ivy has dual channel. makes little real world difference though
3820 is a poor (relatively speaking) choice for a sb-e rig. if you really wanted an sb-e rig, 3930k is where its at. worth the money? im doubtful. especially just for gaming

little, within 2-5%, is that worth an extra 60-80 quid? i wouldnt ;p

cases are subjective. pick the one you like, tj08 is an excellent choice
(but im partial to the arc mini ;p)

hey just out of interest does anyone know if the Asus Rampage IV GENE Intel X79 and G.Skill RipJawsZ 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit will actually work fine/stable together or would you have to use something else?
