I am considering buying a new rig for games mostly, my current pc being a sempron 3000, geforce 6600 :P.

I wanted to go for the micro ATX mb's and cases, but am not sure they will fit the psu's and gfx cards. But anyway i have decided to go for a AMD and nvidia mix, my budget being about 700 but willing to stretch to 800, i already have moniter, mouse etc. so only need the box and the bits in it as it where :).

O another thing, i was not sure to have a 8800 which will enable dx10 shizzle, or go for the 7 series of nvidia.

Idea's guys?

and thanks. :)

Intel >>> AMD atm.

Win.

Downgrade to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-065-HT if you don't wanna splash out for the 8800GTS.

That was what i was thinking, i like the idea of small pc's but is there any cases at all that would fit the massivley oversized card?

No, hence my suggestion of the lian li. TBH I prefer the idea of adequate airflow/cooling, and mine really is the best machine you'll get for £800. :)

The Sugo will take anything except the 8800GTS 640 and the GTX as it comes in the box, and even then it just means you remove the 3.5" drive bays and screw the HDD into the second 5.25" bay.

Not a problem at all. I run mine with the 3.5" bays removed anyway, better airflow. :)

Thanks Tute :), it's a very good looking case if a bit pricey, although i can not see it for sale on overclockers hmmm.. anyway with the 8800 being possible in a micro atx case, what would you reccomend guys?

Cheers squiffy although i think i shall stay with the cube case, tight as it may be, it certainly has charm. So right now that is decided what of the chips and bits? :P I was thinking X2 processor, 2 gig of ram, a raptor 160GB but past this i am not sure. There seems to great a wealth of choice, and the choice of a mobo complete confuses me, if i buy a cheap one for instance does it bottle neck the whole system or does it just mean i will miss out on a few extra features of the board.

That's a fair beat of heat in there, the Sugo intake/exhaust system is quite poor, compared to the TJ-08 (12cm intake and exhaust) Also TJ-08 allows a larger CPU cooler.

IMO if you're looking at a gaming rig I would get a larger MATX case, you don't want to pack hot items into a poorly ventilated MATX cube.

C2D surely? you mean, 2 gig of RAM, Raptor isn't worth, better off with of a Seagate or WD, will beat it on everything except random access reading.

DS3/DS4 P5B/P5N are all great boards, cheaper ones especially mATX ones have limited headroom for overclocking

No i have truly decided to go with AMD, it may be folly on my behalf. BUT i have used AMD all of my pc life and well... i shall stick with them. :P

Tute you spoke of using this case in your micro ATX rig, can you tell how it performs? (heat, etc.)

I have always stuck with Intel- being that AMD has always been crappy unstable system, I now have two A64's.

The current C2D offer superior performance over AMD line.

The Sugo is well known to be a little oven.

Lol your funeral mate, no point to brand loyalty when Intel blows away AMD's offerings

Hey Hey...

I'm running an 8800GTS 320MB in my Lian Li v300, it's fits... just  only a little bit of dremmeling required

Cooling is fine, there's 2 x 80mm @ the front, 1 x 80mm beside the CPU, the PSU & the 8800 chucking out air.

All in all i'm quite pleased with it :)

Apart from the fact my Hyper 580 Type R didnt fit :(

Hmmmm the whole of the forums seems against AMD, is their none who stand by it loyaly?

Why? What's the point of "loyality" if Nvidia 8900GTX performs like a Voodoo Banshee would you buy it, instead of a ATI R600?
