Looking to upgrade my N54L, but the price here in Canada is about £500! Gen 8 is £110 after cashback in the UK. I could buy now and get it in Feb when i'm home...

But if there's a Gen 9 coming, i'd probably wait...

No news as of yet. If there is one coming out, HP are as tight as a ducks rear about it.

Now they've gone to a socket for the CPU I'm not sure they will change very much as they can just improve the CPU in future versions ?

Needs a UEFI BIOS, hot swap capability - best improvements they can do IMO. Maybe dual PSU but that's starting to increase the cost and size.

I would expect a UEFI BIOS ... which is a pity as we've had all sorts of issues with the one on the gen9 blades.

I'd be interested to hear that as well! We've deployed over 100 Gen9s at work with no issues!

e.g. until recently, you couldn't install ESXi on a Gen9 BL460c with the UEFI BIOS -- you had to configure it with legacy boot. That has been fixed in a firmware update. Overall the G9s were very flakey -- if I rebooted 6 of them, 1 of them randomly wouldn't come back and it would be stuck at some phase of the POST. Power cycle it, and it would boot fine.
