Hi guys,

First time poster here long time lurker. I am about to embark on my first Gaming PC build. I currently run a Dell Xps 820 thats about 5 or 6 years old and feel its time for an upgrade since the old girl is starting to struggle.

This is the list of components im after:

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

Corsair Professional Series AX 860W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020044-UK)

KFA2 GeForce GTX 660 EX OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - Black/White (CC-9011013-WW)

Corsair Vengeance Pro Silver 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY8GX3M2B2133C9)

LG BH16NS40 16x SATA Internal BDRW

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler

I will probably eventually get a second Gtx 660 and SLI but for now thats my shopping list.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

John

Oops the page actually timed out when I clicked on that. I was supposed to add the samsung 128gb SSD and this will hold my operating system windows 7 64bit.

Cheers

Hi Bongo,

I hope I answered your SSD question above. As for usage I will most be playing FPS like Crysis 3 and the call of duties and world of tanks etc. I would like to overclock it to over 4Ghz if possible but reluctant and admitedly intimidated by water cooling. Plus buying a house at the moe so just want a good gaming rig without having to sell a kidney ;)

Wow such fast responses :) thanks semaphia I will will downgrade to 600w but if in a year or two I decide upgrade again will I need to upgrade the PSU? Would I not be better off getting the 800W now?

John

Wow thanks a million guys ill grab an x280 so :) now I gotta hide all this stuff from the gf ;)

Just one more quick question, I see you included a water cooled fans there. Is different than your conventional water cooling with radiators and reservoirs etc?

John

I like the idea of just a radiator and the CPU liquid cooled as long as im not wrestling with a loads of tubes and removing bubbles from the line and all that lark :)

Im overwhelmed by the response, thanks a mil guys. I think im sorted now. Im going to bookmark this topic and will refer back to it as I buy my parts.

Have a great weekend all

John
