Hi.

I need a bit of help troubleshooting.

I just got a new motherboard from amazon (asrock z68 extreme4 gen3) to compliment the 2x970's I purchased here soon to arrive. Fitted everything turned computer on and 4 beeps, motherboard shows error 55 which is memory not installed apparently, fans going but no screen.

Took all but 1 ram stick out, turned computer on and fans go for a second then computer turns off. Rinse and repeat. Swapped ram sticks and same story. Took most components out and same story. Sometimes I'm 'lucky' and reaches the 4 beeps scenario.

It could be a faulty motherboard but I hope not. The RAM was working an hour prior, as was everything else. I do know that my old motherboard had 6 mounting points, this new one has 10, had to leave one empty as my case doesn't have a mount there, so possible grounding issue? I don't think the extra 3 screws were any different in size either.

After work tomorrow I'll take it all apart and refit it barebones and see if that works, but any ideas appreciated.

Check the socket pins to see if any are bent. If you have a bolt down cooler sometimes bolting it down too tightly can cause problems and slackening the bolts off a tad can fix things.

It's sounding likely that it is the BIOS then, as I have a 3750k. I'm guessing there is no way of updating it with this cpu installed...? So basically I will have to return the item.

What a huge design flaw!

you can also order a spare bios chip off fleabay or worth asking asrock themselves

ask for one with latest bios to support ivybridge on it,then simply pull out the bios chip/plug new one in and away you go

might cost you £10 of auction site

Someone on here a couple of weeks ago contacted Asrock about a bios chip as he had a similar problem and they sent him one free of charge. He had it in a few days too.

This - Asrock are pretty good with that. They sent me one pretty quick, and solved the problem.

Barebones tested, same issue. I'm back on my old motherboard for the time being, the two 970's fitted but no option for SLI as the second slot is only 4x.

I've sent ASRock an e-mail to see what they say, I think I got the correct site for it at least. I used their contact form at http://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp which is their Support Request Form.. but the default country says "United Satates" hmm

Ok could have may be changed default country - but don't worry, they will respond I am sure.

I just meant the glaring typo they have for States.

Got a get a reply from them yesterday, they are sending a replacement chip in the post and instructions seem very simple! Very good customer service. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
