Hi there, So I'm planning to upgrade my cpu and motherboard. I was wondering how this works with moving my existing storage devices over. I have an SSD with windows 10 on it (originally windows 7 with the free upgrade) and another SSD that just has games on it. Can I literally just plug them into the new motherboard and be good to go? Or is it advised that I link my windows 7 key to a microsoft account beforehand? Alternatively, is a fresh install a better option for the OS SSD? Thanks

While clean OS install is of course the surest way Windows should tolerate hardware change quite well nowadays.
Sysprep could help Windows to better be ready for different hardware:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...p/sysprep--generalize--a-windows-installation

By default Windows installation activates itself for particular hardware using like motherbaord serial numbers etc.
But if Windows is tied to Microsoft account, there shouldn't be any activation problems when changing hardware.

Thanks, that helped a lot.
